What would it take to make The Hipbase the "Official Discussion Forum and Database of The Tragically Hip"?
The Hip could post a link on their site, and publicly endorse it. Other bands without the allure of The Hip have done it; and their discussion forums aren't half as well run or maintained as this one.
Perhaps a well worded letter would get them thinking about it.
Thoughts?

I think a letter would be the best bet. It might not be the quickest plan of action, but maybe the most effective.

Why not, the band seems to be completely inconsiderate of their fans these days. If they're not going to create a forum for us, why not go with what's been proven t work! Imagine how many fans there out there who haven't yet discovered the Hipbase and would love a place to talk Hip other than the Henhouse!

The only benefit would be the boost in traffic. But once something becomes official, there tends to be parameters for what can be said as far as criticism goes, and that is a big negative.
Better to be a fansite with no band interference.

i dont think it should be the official discussion forum, but it would be nice if they recognized the hipbase by mentioning it here and there, like on their website.

I have to agree with Powderfinger. Better with no band interference. :thumb:
I know of a forum for another Canadian band that is run by fans, but the drummer's daughter frequents it. Anyway, one fan criticized the guitarist and the drummer's daughter went ape shit. She publically ridiculed the fan and made that person feel unwelcome not only at the forum, but at the band's shows as well. If the fan's control the forum then they can feel free to voice their opinions, both positive and negitive.

Perhaps my analogy was a poor one. I guess all I'm saying is that it feels good to be able to visit a site where people can feel free to voice their opinions both good and bad.
