I believe Rob said it best during the IVL show from the 279 -- "I live in Maybury, and it's a town in ruin". Even then I believe they said they'd play there as soon as a new venue was built. Maybe they'll start lobying for a new lower size venue as well. AJ's cannot be the number one concert destonation in this city.
Building the arena takes roughly 4-8 months... start ASAP... I just may have a Hip concert in this town before I graduate.

The last 'big' show was in 1995 at The Memorial Centre. They also played in 1998 at The Ironhorse Saloon.
For a long time The Hip said they didn't play Kingston for two reasons: no suitable venue, and a 'music critic' for The Whig named Greg Burliak.
Is he gone? Or maybe the guys know, deep down, that Kingston city council will not be able to get a new venue built in their lifetime, so they'll never have to play Kingston again!
I lived in Kingston for the first 19 years of my life, (8 years in Toronto since) and the city has a way of staying put; never changing unless it is absolutely crucial. A second crossing of the Cataraqui River has been in discussion since my grandfather was on city council - and he died in 1976!! The new venue idea isn't a new one either. Block D was going to be the spot, and before that, the existing Memorial Centre property.
That city needs it more than most, but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Ya, the article had it wrong in saying the show was 9 years ago. They played in 1998 and they also did a show i believe in the summer of 1999 for a blues festival.

The "dirty" NOIS-ABAC was brilliant. I have the video here. I wish the bootleg of the concert was all soundboard like this one song. It'll be interesting to see what they decide to put on the DVD. Somehow i can't picture a song with the word that Gord uses to make this the "dirty" version getting put out on a DVD set for the masses.
