I'm pretty darn sure it's the 20th anniversary of the band, I thought in that 1 interview with Gord on the release of TATH he said 84? Can anyone back me up on this? :rambo:
I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

Yeah, '84 sounds about right...
Here's a classic link (I've posted it before) on the "Pre-Paul" Hip, which picks up the story in October 1985:

(love those photos!)

Excerpt:
"Journal: How do you write your songs?
Bobby: Gord Sinclair writes the basic songs, I arrange it and Gord Downie forgets it."

Upon further review...this may actually be their 21st year... :what
From the "iceberg.com" biography site:
"The band originally formed in 1983 when Downie, Baker and Sinclair were all studying at Queen's University."
and further:
