I ran across this map breaking down the US by what they call Soda Pop.
I always thought pop was mostly Buffalo thing - I guess not.

Clearly, St. Louis doesn't want to be associated with "northern" states OR "southern" states when it comes terminalogy for sweetened carbonated beverages. Interesting.
We grew up calling it "pop" exclusively (north-central Ohio).
I've heard many in the Cleveland area....usually people of Italian heritage....call it "soda" (despite what that map says). East coast ties i guess.....
I remember taking a family vacation as a child, and we were visiting the Ozark Mountains. Somewhere in Arkansas, we stopped for lunch and when I ordered a "coke" with my burger and fries, the lady asked me "what kind of coke do you want?"
I just stared at her.

In Michigan, it's definitely "pop" all the way. Anyone referring to sweetened carbonated beverages as "soda" is viewed with suspicion and/or curiosity.

I have heard people use the term Soft Drink but it has aways been pop for me

folks around these parts say soda. We say pop in our house but we are Yanky transplants.
I often call it Soda Pop. I like keeping it real that way. 8)
