Ten Years Ago Today - 1998-12-12 - Modjeska Theatre
#1

Ten years ago, The Hip performed at the Modjeska Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A soundboard of that show is floating around, and it is also my all time favourite Hip bootleg!
So I suggest that today is as good a day as any to pop that show in the ol' CD Player and rock out.
(Also, this show contains my absolute favourite version of Emperor Penguin, complete with a Wings 'Jet' tease! On The Verge is also particularly epic)

December 12 1998: Modjeska Theatre, Milwaukee: Set List
1: Fireworks
2: Twist My Arm
3: Courage (For Hugh Maclennan)
4: Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man
5: Ahead By A Century
6: Lionized
7: Poets
8: Bobcaygeon
9: Nautical Disaster
10: The Luxury
11: Something On
12: Gift Shop
13: Emperor Penguin
14: At The Hundredth Meridian

15: Chagrin Falls
16: On The Verge

17: Vapour Trails
18: Little Bones

This is the On The Verge with the White Christmas tease, right? Isn't there a hint of Edelweiss thrown in during this show too?

This is a solid solid show. And ten years old? Crazy. Here's to Chirstmastime in Grade 11 all over again.

Cheers,

Pat

Thanks for the reminder, Sean. This is a great show, no doubt. (What I wouldn't do to hear Penguin and Vapour Trails in the same show today.)

But didn't I read somewhere that, while the sound is good enough to be soundboard, it's actually just an amazing audience recording? Anyone remember something like that?

The details with the versions I have both indicate soundboard but I recall that story as well. I think that markslog would be the guy to confirm it...

Is anybody having problems with the last 4 files, I think they're all the files from the second disc. I just downloaded the show and it's saying that there's no data associated with the last 4 files. I'd appreciate the help because with out it I get no encores Sad

Maybe you were not cheering loud enough and they decided not to come back out for the encore. Big Grin

This is also my favorite Hip boot. I got it from Alan Moore back in 99 and I recall him telling me that it was something special that he was given from somebody in the Hip's management as a gift to him. In that trade, I also got the Saskatoon and Winnipeg Phantom Power shows that our very own Rory Young recorded. Remember the good old days of trading boots...

Thanks Chris that did the trick. By the way On The Verge is simply amazing, and that little bit of Jet at the end of EP is so cool.

This is a nice show, but the audience recording from the night prior in Combined Locks, WI is a much better listen IMO :music

Well then.. please share it. I only have a crappy MP3 from that show. I'd love to upgrade it.

My version is from MP3 as well. There are some issues with a couple of the tracks, that make it incomplete, but the overall sound is fantastic. Easily my favourite sounding PP boot, and there are many great recordings from this tour.
