So we all have noticed that since they began the official World Container tour, that Johnny debuted a new Yamaha kit to replace the Ayottes.

I am wondering if anyone has the scoop on some of the specs of his current stage gear.(namely YOU Mav!)

Any drummers please feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

I believe he uses the same snare drums and the same Sound Edge Hi-Hats...

As far as his cymbals, I'm pretty sure that pre-WC he used an 18" Paiste Signature Fast Crash, 18" and 17" (or 18" and 19"?) Rude Thin Crashes, and a 22" Paiste 2002 Ride.

His cymbals noticeably perform differently than his old ones did. I believe he now has a 19" Paiste 2002 crash (not sure what type) and what looks like a 22" Paiste 2002 Ride, but again I can't tell what kind specifically. It's plays alot more like a crash/ride, and is washier than the old one.

This has just been bugging me trying to figure out what the new stuff is lol. Any info would be appreciated.

I have been to his Paiste profile before but it hadn't been updated in years last I looked. Good to see they have the new stuff on there. I didn't think he played such large cymbals either.

I asked him about that in Red Deer back in early 2007. He told me that things fell through with Ayotte, and he took a trip to the Yamaha factory, and he liked what he saw. He said the sound is now sharper, and the feel is better.
He also stated that he felt bad dropping Ayotte because they're a good Canadian company, but they just weren't offering what he was looking for anymore.
Anyway, that's what I remember from that conversation. Take it for what it's worth.
