Gord's Voice has changed over the years, and he sounds completely different, however that is what makes this band so sweet, is that they write songs around his new voice, you would never hear a tune liek good night josephine during the fully completely days. I agree that Gord's voice now has more range, and is a lot more flexible for use in other songs. The only thing i miss is the old crack in gords voice

i personally eagerly anticipate what the hip will bring out each time a new album is released, and i find that i like their new music more and more.people that say they only like the old stuff, i don't think were big hip fans from the start.
of course everyone has an opinion... 8)

I agree and disagree. Making music with friends may be the goal but to earn a living at it, you have to engage the music buying public.

But you don't have to engage them to the point of selling a zillion albums.

Lots of people settle for smaller audiences, and concentrate on making music that they like rather than music that would sell.

Oh, I agree whole-heartedly. I think the best bands find the middle road between making their music accesible and challenging themselves and their fans. The Hip does that and that's why I like them. I loved FC - it bore out the promise that was evident in the self titled CD, UTH and RA - but I don't want 12 versions of that album.

Moi aussi. It's always new, a little different, a little uncomfortable in spots and, ultimately, it gets added to my list of favourites. What else can you ask from your favourite band?

By the way - I heard the story that Bob Rock was defending himself when he killed music. I don't doubt it for a minute. Music always was a psychotic asshole.

Yeah. But let's be honest. It would have been a very different playing field if Music at Work was released before Road Apples. Would they be headlining sold out shows like they do now? The Hip are able to create music such as MAW and IVL because of Up To Here and Road Apples.

Maybe so, but the world is full of people making a living at music without ever having that level of success.

Not as good a living, mind you, but a living.

You can't tell me that a band like Broken Social Scene would get angry if millions more people heard their music.

Of course they wouldn't. But I also don't think they'll quit making music if they don't become the next Britney. I'm sure that as long as they are paying the bills, and having a good time doing it, they'll march on. If millions enjoy their music, great, but it's not the only reason they are doing it.
