Local Radio Station's Top 945 Rock songs of all time
#16

patiodweller Wrote:NOIS should be #1. It was #1 for several years on the Bear's Labour Day 500 and then fell to #2 when they started putting Comfortably Numb as #1.

There shouldn't be a list of the best songs of all time.

Hey,

It's a song about pee man!!

Why the hell is courage so low??? My fav hip song I think. Although that tends to change daily.

I so agree man. Although the song has become cliche, it is indeed powerful. That transition in the end is awesome. As is the transition in layla.

Hell with the stones. So so so over rated! BTW, did anyone check out Lance's last pod cast? Watchmen songs rocked, but I'd never heard some of those Hip bootlegs from their 95 MSG concert openning for the stones. Pretty sweet version of nautical. Check it out.

if you can say the Stones are over rated then, it is just as easy to say Zeppelin is so so over rated

Perhaps. That whole page / plant thing 10 yrs ago was bullshit, but at least they don't prostitute the music they allegedly celebrate with some bullshit marketing spin.

i didn't think the page/plant thing was bullshit...the cd with new material, although i didn't appreciate it at the time, i can listen to it now and realize it's a great fucking cd....and when i saw them live, they were amazing...i do agree that the stones are overrated though...

They never really had a chance to, if they were together, maybe they would, be just like the Stones, it is pretty much the only way to get a giant tour off the ground these days

THe Rolling Stones aren't my favourite band and may be overrated but I'll be damned if they didn't put on one hell of a show in Moncton. Sure, they may be corporate whores but they have some damn great songs. How can you not like "Paint It Black"? It's a tremendous song.

intothenight is correct though; there shouldn't be lists because it's all speculation.

I'll tell you what though- have a listen to "Streets of Love" from A BIGGER BANG and see what you think. It is by no means a flawless album but damn it has some good tunes on it. I love Keef's songs. The Stones are pretty damn good for 60 year olds.

My girlfriend just informed me that she was listening to a radio sation today in Oshawa (so probably a Toronto station) and they were playing a best songs ever type countdown and the DJ ranted about how overrated the HIP were and said how annoying they are and referred to them as "happy faces that smoke a lot of weed." Well of course, I said that I have nothing against people who don't know anything about the HIP and thus don't like the hip, there are some 6 billion people in the world who have never heard their music but that she (the DJ) was a DJ and so the idea that she doesn't like the HIP is absurd to me. Her happy face comparison alone makes it obvious she has no reason to hate them other than envy of some sort? And she thinks that by venting on the air she will convince others not to like them?? To which my g/f responded by basically saying I base my life around the HIP and I was too defensive and intolerant of people who don't like the HIP. Am I really intolerant? I would hate to be that! If someone's opinon was that Shakesphere sucked or that Picaso sucked, would it not be unreasonable to say that their opinion was ignorant? How might I better articulate a defense of the HIP and Hipness, if you will, to people without sounding intolerant?

Don't worry, my g/f is not loosening my grip on the Tragically Hip.

You're always going to sound intolerant when you argue music. The only question I have for the DJ, is whether or not she respects the band.

If she doesn't, well, we can grab our shovels and wait for her after work...

I, personally, am not intolerant to non-Hip fans, but if they don't respect the bands accomplishments and their abilities then they're just wrong...

My now-fiancee hated The Hip when we first met and I wore her down. She sings along to many songs now and has been to two concerts with me. If you can find another non-Hip freak who loves Emperor Penguin, please let me know.

Now they are doing an all hip weekend this weekend. I will be listening, since I work Saturday anyway!
