Well, tragically american, if ya knew anything about the Hip (or even bothered) and, if I'm not mistaken (which may very well be possible) the Hip jumped on their fuckin dog-sleds and went down to New Orleans to record Up To Here. I hear they even had to take off their toques.

So, ya know, just a shot in the dark, but maybe as they were doing a little sight-seeing or something, they stumbled upon the little fact that New Orleans ACTUALLY IS SINKING and decided to write an entire song about it while getting drunk and prancing around the city. But it's just a thought....

And I can understand how one would assume that a band is American with all that knowledge I suppose you've gathered on said band to date... I don't know anything about Shakira or Enrique Iglesias but I'm willing to bet they're Chinese cuz I've heard them singing in a language I don't know and Chinese just happens to be a language I don't know.
