Well, for starters, people play golf on them.

On the other hand, golf courses do tend to keep the golfers off the streets, and concentrate them in places where they are more likely to be hit by lightning.

So I think golf courses do serve a useful purpose.

As much as I enjoy golfing, it is a pretty bland and dull sport. I would have voted for it except I really enjoy the part where you drive the little cart around.
