this is kind of a random post, but it is a response to everyone saying how the hip never made it big in the US. I am glad that they have not made it big here, it is a relief that not everyone is listening to the same thing. Just look at what happened to the Dave Matthews Band, they used to have a small loyal following, and now everyone and their sister loves "DMB". I like in a sense having the hip to "myself". Not everyone is playing them in their dormroom, and i most certainly dont hear people jamming out to the hip in their car. Plus, one can catch the hip in small 1000 person venues, not huge arenas. Dont get me wrong i was at ACC this past thanksgiving but sometimes i love the intamacy of a small show. All and all, i love that the hip have not made it big in the US.
I agree!!! Meeting them after the show in Clifton Park in October was just amazing and not something you could do with just any band.

Again, nothing here I can't say "yes" to. I took my kid brother to see them in San Francisco last October (the day before I my 30th, four months before he turned sixteen... long gap between sibling, I know. & we're the only two), just hanging out front with him, getting to say hi to the boys as they went back and forth to the busses was not just great for me, who's been a fan since my rommate in my first apartment turned me on to them, twelve years ago, but for the Punk who, at thirteen, thought that Buckethead, & Gordie were the two coolest people ever.

ya i've bumped into the boys outside of small venues... and the hip in little clubs is amazing i'm sure; but, walking down the street on the way to the show in kingston last september there was a group of young girls standing on their roof shouting the words to courage... and a few days ago some fat guy in a leafs jersey blasting little bones was filling up his car at the gas pump next to me... sometimes those types of things are good too.

I agree with everybody here. I've seen the boys a few times in the States and there's nothing better than seeing them up close and personal in a small club or theatre. The Canadian shows are fun just because of the hugeness of it all, but I still prefer the small gigs to the big ones. The Hip certainly deserve to be an arena attraction all over the world, but I'm glad they never caught on in the U.S. I remember an American journalist once called them "the biggest undiscovered band in the world."

My perspective is from below the border but I really like seeing the hip in small venues with unobstructed site lines. But the fact that my friends are like "tragically who? don't they sing that new orleans song?" is kind of depressing. I'd like for once to see a bunch of teenagers grooving to Hip music like in Borg's post above.
