Yesterday, Valentines Day, at around 3:30 in the afternoon, I was walking across Confederation Square in downtown Ottawa. It's surrounded by the Gothic Parliament Buildings and Ottawa's vintage hotels, and the War Memorial is right smack in the middle.

Two girls, my age maybe a bit younger, were walking across the square, each with two roses in their hands: one red, one yellow. They were dressed nicely, probably coming from work somewhere downtown.

As they passed, I noticed the roses had small cards attached with something written on them, and heart-shaped logos in the corners.

These two young girls walked up to memorial, stopped in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, knelt down, kissed their fingers, touched the marker above the tomb, and placed their roses across his grave.

Maybe I'm a shmuck, but that moved me, a real nice thing to do I thought.

Nice story...we don't get to hear enough of those. It's nice to know that there are still people like that out there.

Thanks for the story Stephen... it's nice to hear a story where young people are doing something positive, because we don't hear that type of story enough.

I think it might be a safe bet that the soldier's seen more action than I have in the past 80 years or so.
