Thanks for the input...makes me wish all the more that they'd re-release LBU on its 10th anniversary or whatever - a special edition with the full show! What better way to allow the true blue Hipsters to get their hands on one of the best shows ever.

So i can dream a bit here. Maybe before the next studio album the band can re-release the entire LBU show on two cds and include raw concert footage, backstage stuff...etc. Cheap Trick did this with their famous Budakan lp back in the late 70's. In the 90's they re-released the complete show on cd.
Even as a limited edition cd...I dish out 24.99 or something for it!

Or better yet, how bout a box set containing one show from each tour since the Up to Here shows! :thumb:

Haha...well, I guess there's no harm in dreaming, but I don't think we'll EVER see that!
The 10 year anniversary of LBU isn't far away, just a couple of years, and that would be the perfect time for the special double-album release of it!!

LBU is perfect in its current format
Its structured like a theatrical piece
Like Bobby says it can be listened to in one go and he is right - a whole show would be too much and just become documentation
The flow is incredible... especially the first three together, then the breathless breather then Twist My Arm
I remember re songs being cut Stereo wasn't ready and Daredevil as usual on the 96 shows was preceded by an epic jam... it was good to finish after Where cos Gord says goodnight. Flamenco and 700... I guess they the album skewed towards Henhouse too much.

I have to interject something here. I think the suggestion that LBU is proof that The Hip have lost touch with their fanbase is an utterly ludicrous thing to say.
The show from which LBU comes was almost 8 years ago. The album was released more than 7 years ago. And yet somehow, magically, 8 years later, LBU suddenly is responsible for alienating fans? Give me a break.
Since the album's release, we have had ARA '97; the endless '98-'99 Phantom Power tour that encompassed over 100 shows; The Evening With tour where the boys played 29-31 songs every night; The IVL tour that brought the band to very intimate venues across Canada (you DO realize that they just as easily could have done another massive hockey arena tour across Canada and made 10x as much money, but they did the theater tour for THE FANS, right???); and not to mention the albums PP, M@W, IVL and IBE themselves.
They omitted certain songs from LBU partly because they wanted to only use one CD. They felt that a two-disc concert album was too long of a listening experience. I wholeheartedly disagree, but it's their songs and their show - they certainly are entitled to their opinion on this. I look upon it as a profound amount of humility on their part.
Finally, as a note regarding Rush: They released live albums in 1976, 1981, 1989, and 1998 - and every one of them were cut-n-pastes of various shows. The first time they released a show as a complete recording wasn't until less than a year ago.
