Anyone else a bit dissapointed that Gord changed the opening line from "Here comes a country are you in or you out?" ?
I thought that line was great, but perhaps they ditched because it was too blatantly political... I don't know. I thought that line was a keeper for sure.

I'll listen on Tuesday, but until then I'd be interested to know what has replaced it. I did think it was a fantastic lyric.

I noticed that too, but I think the song is still equally political and anti-war... especially with the change in the second chorus...
"Somehow, where Democracy, is how we all learn to sleep... with ourselves...drawing to ourselves everything we can carry..."
Thats the main change I found, but I agree the original intro lyrics had more of a 'punch'... or call it what you will...

Yeah, I noticed that switch as well. I gotta say, I still dig the raw Edgesfest version a little more.

Hey you guys notice how after 01:25 there's a couple seconds where Gord sounds like he's mumbling? Its not real clear what he's saying.
It surprised me to hear this in a studio recording.

I noticed him seeming to mumble words in a few songs. I just assumed it was because the band didn't really care if the songs all sounded perfect. It reminds me of the song Pillform on "Battle of the Nudes" where Gord laughs in the song but they don't edit it out, instead just keep that version of the song. Music isn't meant to be perfect, so why bother making a thousand versions of the songs to get them perfect? The album is supposed to sound like the live version of the Hip and I think it does (well, forgetting lyrics aside). Just think of all the mistakes bands make when playing live. That's the beauty of playing live, the unpredictability and the feeling that anything can happen next.

As we change so does they way we see things. Have you ever read an old poem that you wrote then changed it? Or at least felt distance from the old world you were.
I see Gord's lyrics shifting from 'pointing outward' to 'pointing inward'....that's all. It'll change a few words--and a few other things :roll:
'You' to 'I' to 'We' to 'It'..... lol
