Hip Article In Saturday's Newspapers
#1

Today in both the Winnipeg Free Press and The Winnipeg Sun there is a good story about The Hip and how Heaven Is A Better Place To Be Today is about Dan Synder/Dany Heatley. I assume if it's in the Winnipeg Sun it will be on www.canoe.ca as well as the rest of the Sun papers across Canada. It was pretty cool though in the Free Press that they printed the story in the Entertainment and the Sports sections. There's also a good picture of Gord in the Sun from the '02 Salt Lake City show.

Quebecor papers have always been very good to the boys. You can almost guarantee a cover photo of some sort in each of their tabloids after a local Hip show.

Jason Ransom here in Ottawa has some beautiful Gord shots on display on Bank Street, and you can be all but certain he'll have a nice display for the July 12 Ottawa Sun. (I'll bet on a nice "screamin' Gord" shot on the cover.)

The artcile's a great one.

:thumb: The Hip are very cool to write a tribute song about this and then actually go and help Dan Snyder's charity foundation. The Hip and many of us others recognized the great love and forgiveness shown by the Snyder family. I would hope we could all have the same courage they've displayed in this tradgedy. How many of us could actually do what they did?

Exactly.
Do you remember last summer when the porches collapsed in Chicago during a party and all those kids died? Well a really good kid from Buffalo was among those who perished. Gord was on his solo tour and played a show in Buffalo the same week of the porch incident. During his show, he stopped and said a few words about the guy who died and dedicated a song to him, it was honestly a very cool thing to do and was a very classy move.

This is what true poetry/songwriting is. Not reliving high school, or braggin about yerself in a rap, but documenting the tragedies and joys of our times.

In 300 years, do you think historians will read lyrics to a Britney Spears song and say, "Gee, there seems to have been a lot of heartbreak back then..."? No. They will stick with the poets and songwriters who immortalized our moments and the lives of those around us.

So far Gord had been doing just this and he should be praised for it by the vast majority but everyone now seems to only care about who Britney married, where Paris partied or when Bush will be crushed.

Gord has my undying respect for being a true poet.
Now in the wise words of one of our generation's greatest minds;
"...illuminate the obvious, it's standing right here in front of us..."
