Hot Mic Appreciation Thread
#1

I am the hot mic, I pick up asides of Donald, The Tyrant

(once you hear, you can't unhear)

It is kind of crazy how this song is called Hot Mic, does say 'Dawn' The Tyrant, and was out prior to the Donald gettin' Hot Mic'd on pussy grabbin'.... just sayin..
But also.

What an amazing tune on the dark end of an unintentionally dark album.

Any one else here got some Hot Mic love?

Love the lyrics

I am the hot mic, I pick up asides, of the modern tyrant
"…laws of the shadows, colours of justice",
I don't know what it meant
How patriotism is now enough and it's powerful stuff

Can we get it quiet enough? In here,
I can hear god, the cat's paws cross the keys,
Or the wish tomorrow is,
but a whisper from your lips and I fall to my knees

I am the hot mic, the war room is dead, janitors move in
Talking of their dark doors, their enchanted paths,
I don't know what they meant
How with something to fall back on, yea, people usually do
Hit the lights! Kill the room!

Can we get it quiet enough? In here,
I can hear god, cat paws along the keys,
And the wish tomorrow is,
but a whisper from your lips and I fall to my knees.

I'm not afraid of convincingness,
m just uncertain for sure
I'm in awe of no one, I'm made for this,
teach me what to want.

I am the hot mic, I pick up asides of Dawn, The Tyrant
He's coming from the shadows, feeling being seen,
I don't know what he meant
I don't guess, I listen. It's more than enough.
It's powerful stuff

Can we get it quiet enough in here?
So I can hear god - a cat walk cross the keys
And hit notes so lonely it's one whisper from your lips and I fall to my knees

I'm not afraid of convincingness,
I'm just uncertain for sure
I'm in awe of no one, I'm made for this,
teach me what to want.
And though I'm not yet earnest enough,
not unblinkingly sincere
I'm over here
I overhear you
And I always hear you

Love the lyrics but I always find the choppy-vocal-style melody that Gord has been using on and off since Coke Machine Glow off-putting. I always find that difficult to get beyond. It works on some songs but not most. And musically I think the song is one of the weakest on the album. I like Gord S and Johnny's "marching band" sound but don't really care much for what Paul & Rob are doing here.

Unintentionally? I think it's very intentionally a dark album.

Great song. Love Johnny's drumming on that one.

Really dig this song - was hoping to catch it last summer but unfortunately it didn't make an appearance.

Thought it was very apropos when the album came out and more so post DJT win and subsequent bumbling.

Me as well. Other than "Machine" it was the song I was most looking forward to hearing in a live setting. With Johnny's thumping tom toms, it could have been an arena monster. I wonder why it never made the set and if that is any reflection of the Hip's level of like or dislike of the song.
