Hip in Atlanta
#1

Hi,

I'm new to this board. First post actually.

Long time Hip fan though.

I'm flying from Canada to Cali to catch two Neil Young shows in Oct. Thought I'd make a pit stop in Atl to see the Hip. Got my tix today.

Can anyone shed any light on the venue? Capacity, vibe, sound etc... I see it's GA and I'm hoping to get nice and close to the stage.

Can anyone suggest a restaurant near the venue for an out of towner? I like everything. Also what part of town is the concert all? Far from the airport?

Any help is appreciated. Should be the start of a great week of music.

Welcome to Hipbase. I trust that yer aware that Atlanta is not exactly on the way from to California from anywhere in Canada.... that's quite a detour. :thumb:

Google tells me that it's 14 miles from the airport to the venue.

And Google also tells me that 750 people seated, or 1050 standing can fit at the Variety Playhouse.

Yeah, not a direct route for sure. But I gotta be in Cali by Thurs., so this is the only Hip show I can attend.

And get this. I can see the Hip in my hometown of Hamilton for $90 or fly to Atl for $59 (from Buffalo), and get a ticket for $25 and possibly be front row. A smaller venue, more intimate and a chance to see them stateside. Thought it would be an interesting stop on my music tour.

Appreciate the google tips, I guess I was lazy on that one. But if anyone knows anything about the sound quality of the venue or a good local eatery, it would be much appreciated.

I'm flying to Asheville, NC through Atlanta that day. I'm half-hoping that the flight to Asheville gets cancelled and I can hop in a cab to the show.

I saw the Hip there in 1996. It is an old movie theater made into a venue for concerts. A couple of tiered levels. Sound was pretty good as I remember it.
