Man, this album just keeps getting better after repeated listening. "Breathe" is pure kick-ass rock n' roll, and "Fez-Being Born" is one of the most interesting and unique songs I've ever heard from this band. Kind of Radiohead-esque. It's cool that after 30 years in the biz these guys are still willing to push themselves a little. I'm sure Eno and Lanois' influence has something to do with that as well, but I admire U2's stubborn refusal to become irrelevant. After spending a week with this album, I'm now convinced that "Get On Your Boots" was thrown on there as a complete joke just to highlight how awesome the other 10 songs are.

Ok, so I was a little excited when I wrote that. I guess it's more of a U2-style ass kicking, meaning mid-tempo rocker with great guitars. It may not kick as much ass as something like Fire in the Hole or The Wherewithal, but whatever. It still rocks.

I like Fez a lot too. Bono says it's about a guy riding his motorcycle from Paris to Morocco

"They just released their first album since 2004 but U2 is already planing a quick sequel. Frontman Bono recently told Rolling Stone Magazine that the band will release Songs of Ascent, a more mellow companion to No Line On The Horizon, which dropped in stores this past Tuesday."

I don't find it boring at all. There are plenty of upbeat tracks on this album that balance out the mellow-ness of the slower tunes. No Line on the Horizon, I'll Go Crazy, Boots, Stand Up Comedy, and Breathe are all up-tempo pop/rock songs with big front-and-centre guitars from the Edge. For me this album has the perfect mix of all their styles. Like I said earlier in this thread, I think it's the best thing they've done since Achtung. The only song I don't like is "Boots".

It's interesting that an album titled "Songs of Ascent" would be more mellow. It's a biblical reference (like "40" which is lyrically based on Psalm 40). The Songs of Ascent are a group of 20 or so Psalms which were composed to be sung on journeying to Jerusalem for the annual festivals (in other words - joyous occasions).

Maybe not so much on the mellow part, although I dont find it that uptempo either, its somewhere inbetween. But boring and a failing grade, definitely.

This album is as exciting as a mayonaise sandwhich as far as Im concerned. Its since been deleted and banished from my PC forever. Sorry to break up the love-fest, dont get me wrong I like U2 always have, I just dont like this album at all and this is the last you'll hear of me on the subject.
