Gord Downie's List Of Music You Should Hear
#1

I thought this may have been posted somewhere - but Mr. Search Feature did not turn it up.

Here is a list by Gord Downie on Amazon of music he thinks you should hear:

Hmmm... I posted this on hipfans in December 2005 so I am surprised that it isn't here as well: http://hipfans.com/?p=57

Either way, thanks for the reminder.

I do enjoy City & Colour, so I would feel bad if I docked this choice.

I saw them live once and it was one of the worst shows I've ever been to. I've been to a lot of horrible shows.

If y ou've been to that many bad shows, maybe you should question your own musical taste

I've been to many bad shows because all the shows featuring bands I like are 21+. This is San Diego, man. We have maybe 2 good all-ages venues in the whole city and they're so tiny that all the bands go to play at the House of Blues (who only makes the shitty shows all ages) or Canes or the Belly-Up or ANYWHERE that's 21+. Hell, the Hip were going to come here last year and play a show at some bar before they got their entertainment license revoked. I used to go to shows for the hell of it but after seeing dozens of horrible ones because the local scene sucks, I've stopped going to concerts altogether unless they're something I really want to see.

My 2008 schedule: Acid Mothers Temple next Friday.

That's it. Thanks, San Diego.

I can't actually see Gord putting that as something he thinks people should listen to. He just seems too humble for that...

Agreed. Hipeponymous is on there too. I'm thinking those were added by Amazon just because of who the author of the list is. I remember Gord did a similar list for Maxim a couple years ago, and there weren't any Hip albums on that one.
