I only agree with that statement partially...while there is certainly something to be said for the talent required to write and perform your own songs, I feel that too many people crap on Tribute/Cover bands for a lack of originality.

But I will say this, having seen a number of cover bands over my years of boozing, one thing that almost always happens is that people get up off their ass and get busy when a good cover band starts playing the soundtrack of their youth. Is that not what these people are paid to do?...play music and entertain.

The other universal truth is that the vast majority of people who crap on these guys either can't play an instrument of their own and if they can bust out a few chords they don't have the pills to get up in front of a strange crowd and perform.
