Interesting Coconut Cream fact - Ballgame - 02-09-2007

I was reading the interviews from here

and found this! Thought it was cool!

….. There would a bunch of different versions and they would pick the ones they liked best. In the week that followed they would refine those versions until the band was completely happy with them. A song like Coconut Cream was like that. They had played that song quite a bit and had plenty of different arrangements. When they did the version that's on the record the power went out at the very end of the take, that's why it doesn't have the usual cadence ending. What ends the song now is Johnny's recording of the Blue Angel's flying over San Francisco.

Thats so cool to learn why they did that

That song is one of the very few low points of the band's career. :oops: Any song talking about circle jerks is an atrocity, no matter who composes it.

i must be one of the only people who digs that tune...i try not to think too hard about the lyrical content, but the riff and melody of the song are pretty wicked....much better than butts wigglin, throwing off glass, or pretend!!!

Hang on a sec ... the suggested references to 40 gallons of coconut cream shooting out of a cannon or the subtle allusion to jerking off? ... nah.

For my part, I thought Coconut Cream was about a cat who likes his butterflies slow and fat, and the cat's name is Coconut Cream and he's being shot out of a cannon as punishment for eating the butterflies.

I also think Little Bones is about a cat, and Tiger the Lion is about a schizophrenic cat, and Pigeon Camera is about a cat named Pigeon Camera.

In order of the one I like the most to the one I like the least, I'd rank these songs as:

The Rules, Butts Wigglin', Pretend, and Cocunut Cream.

'The Rules' is an AWESOME TUNE.

Hold Up, Hold Up! How can anyone consider The Rules an even relativley bad song. Its absolutely beautiful- I hate using that word, but it is what it is. And I never used to be a Cocunut Cream fan, but like jgardz said, I try not to focus on the lyrics, moreso the riffs.
