What are the Odds of a Roadside being resurrected?? - surferguy - 01-26-2007

Personally I love the giant outdoor venues, but it has been a bit since the hip did a stint through Western Canada at least. Having played here in the fall and now the areana shows this winter, would it be a dumb idea for them to do a summer festival tour after the US tour? Would that just be an over saturation of tour for this album? Thoughts.

Anybody know of tour plans after the US tour? Will they go on hiatus for a while?

Chances of another ARA are about the same as a Zeppelin reunion tour Smile.

I was just thinking about this, and how awesome it would be. I went to the Camrose 97 show, wow was that a great show!

I also just realized that I know live in San Jose, CA, so getting to an ARA show might be a challenge, hah. I think I would HAVE to figure something out though...

it would be the best time to do it in canada now as there is good bands, sam roberts, broken social scene, matt mays, etc etc etc etc. it would be great for the canadian music industry, but bad for the hip's wallet. thats why they arent doing it because they would have to pay for almost the whole festival, im pretty sure rob baker said that recently when someone asked.

oh i found it from the canoe.ca chat with rob and paul back in october. when asked about another ARA rob says...

"We really loved doing the Roadside thing but after the third one we were feeling like we had done it. It takes a lot of energy to pull one of those off and while it was very rewarding in some many regards it was not financially rewarding. Certain Provincial governments penalized us for having non-Canadian acts on the bill by taking a hefty percentage of the gross. We were really quite sickened by it. We will be doing festivals this summer but we will probably leave the organizational headaches to someone else."

i was at the '97 camrose show, too! such an incredible night...they played 'every time you go' and bobcaygeon two years before it was released. i still remember gord introducing it as "in bobcageyon, as the stars revealed themselves one star at a time"

great post, and really, that's a shame, because it sounds like the bands and the fans alike both loved the ARA, but surprise surprise, the government fucked it up...
