quick question. Are MP4's video and audio? I know ITunes converts to MP4 so was curious. But an MP3 would be great. I love this one!

Are you sure about iTunes converting to MP4? Where is that option?

iTunes can playback MP4 files as they are based on Quicktime, and contain audio and video. iPods with Video also play these files.

I'm pretty sure I've got this on a hard drive somewhere; I'll put it on my todo list and try to get it taken care of this week... unless someone else helps out first.

Alternatively, there are a number of free/cheap capture programs available that you could use to capture the audio from the youtube clip.

Maybe thinking of AAC files showing up as ".m4a"??? You could have an mp4 with just audio played in iTunes, but yeah, I don't think there's a setting for that in the program.

Well let me rephrase that. You can put MP3’s, WMA’s, MP4’s, etc into ITunes library to be loaded into an IPod. But if you buy an album or song from Itunes it comes in “M4P” format which I assume is the same as MP4

Songs purchased from the iTunes Store are in M4A, not M4P. M4A and MP4 are different. :thumb:

Yeah there's no ".m4p"

Apple has proprietary codec for its ACC audio files (.m4a) as well as for its iPod video files (.m4v that uses H.264 compression). Both are essentially .mp4 files but with a "lock" that prevents complete interoperability of these files on various media players outside of Quicktime.

So while iTunes will play .mp3 and .mp4, the .m4a and .m4v are Apple's shtick and won't likely play on non-Apple devices.

AAC = Advanced Audio Coding (only for audio)
It is a standard format that most devices should play, iPod and Zune both do. Files are named with the .m4a extension.

AAC was designed as an improved version of MP3 - it has allows for higher bitrates, and allows for more channels.
