SIM vids - chris - 12-04-2006

Today, for the first time in a really long time I checked out the HDRC forum. I came across some neat videos that fans made using The Sims. Are there any amateur Sims auteurs out there? A Hip Sim vid could be pretty cool.

Bare with me as I steer this thread off track:

Have you heard Derek's Grindig stuff? He was big back in Kingston before I left for school and he ended up playing a gig at the Bomb Shelter in Waterloo. Great guy. Great album. And a drummer to boot.

As for the Sims videos - I've seen them before. Neat stuff and I imagine it would take some great time and effort.

And "great time and effort" sounds like all the Hip DVDs I put out. (Which, by the way, are coming to an end quite soon...)

I'll still throw out the challenge to our hipbase community to whip together one of these Sims vids.

Sorry - let me rephrase that: Derek Downham's (HDRC drummer) material while he was in the band "Grindig". If it still doesn't ring a bell, you should try to get ahold of his album. It's great.

And... maybe I'll look into how to make one of these videos. Hmmm... the shortest Hip song... Wink

I'm "finished". I'll complete the 2006 shows, and may do a show from time to time in the future, but I've had enough. The ignorance and lack of understanding has worn me out.

It was fun at first, but not any more.

that is a total shame chris. you're work is always amazing, and perhaps that's part of the problem...everyone wants their show done the day after it happens, with soundboard audio and a 4 cam mix!! Well I for 1 say THANKS for the great shows you've done, and to the bastards who display their "ignorance and lack of understanding": thanks for ruining a great thing.

There are a number of fans who are very appreciative, contribute to the projects with photos, video, stories, etc; but there are way more who send me PMs and emails begging for a show, demanding a show, etc. On more occasions than I care to count, a jackass or two has come up to me at the end (or worse, during) a show and demanded that I give them the tape from my camera or they'll "turn me in"!

Or how about the jerks that get in front of the camera and display how much of a jerk they are. I'll dig through my outtakes - the footage I cut during editing - and maybe post some of them.

I could go on, but you get the point...

that is just ridiculous chris...and it really is a shame. I'd like to think that I am one of the appreciative fans, and I know that most of the regulars around here are too...and we'll miss your fine work.

This thread wasn't meant to be a farewell tour... but thanks.

And along the lines of what Pat wrote, there's only so much that one person can give. There are lots of great fans/friends who contribute what they can, whenever they can, and I'm happy that I've been able to contribute - but I'm spent. The tank is empty and there isn't a gas station for miles.

Now, who's going to make the first Tragically Hip Sim video?

Don't hold me to this but my wife plays the game I will ask her what she can do.

On the other topic here, it is a shame that people have to be so demanding for shows to be released immediately. I can see that taking a toll on anyone in the taping community. Chris the Europe DVD's are amazing, I love them and do appreciate all the time and effort they must've taken to throw together. At some point I think you have every right to pass on the opportunities to tape and share to others in the community who want to take it on. It is a privlege that we have people willing to take these projects on rather than a right. It is a shame some people forget that. my 2 cents.

service can be demanding.try and remember why you first started.sounds like alot of grateful fans in here appreciate your service.maybe try a disclaimer in your profile:no its not ready,you will know when its ready,if it gets done you will see it on the tracker and please dont send emails related to show tapings!when all else fails SCREAM!
