Casino Royale - direwolf74 - 11-24-2006

Saw it last night and I loved every second of it. Best action flick I've seen this year, and easily the best Bond movie in 20 years. Daniel Craig is ass-kickingly good in the role, and I think he might be the best Bond since Connery. (word is he's already signed on to do two more) He plays it with a bit more seriousness than Brosnan and he's much more convincing in the action/fight scenes. He does have a couple of funny one-liners, but they come off as less campy, which actually makes them funnier. The biggest change I noticed is that "Q" isn't mentioned at all, and there are no funky gadgets this time around. But the movie is so freakin' good, it doesn't really matter.

Two thumbs up!

I agree.

The question I always pose to people is this:

Casino Royale: GREAT movie? or GREATEST movie?

Bought it on DVD today having not seen it..FANTASTIC movie..what James Bond movies should be...having read the books, this is what Ian Fleming had in mind when he wrote Bond..Daniel Craig is perfect in the role, and I can't wait until I see the next couple he does...

I agree with you, it was a great Bond flick, one of my favourites.

One question I had (SPOILER WARNING!)

M supposedly died at the end, right? And this was supposedly the first Bond movie (chronologically), right? How, then, do they explain M's existence in the 'later' Bonds?

in the movie??? or the book

M is a position as is Q. I like the movie but was a little disappointed. They brought a reality feel to it like The Borne Identity, but sacrificed the spirit of Bond. Quinton Tarantino almost did that movie but passed on it. The new Bond is great and I hope next time they give him more action.

My wife wants to buy the DVD just for the bit where bond comes out of the water in his blue swim-shorts....I am trying not to feel a bit put out...

I loved the film, although found myself trying not to yell at the screen when he was defibrillating himself or doing cpr.

Yet more proof I need to get out more.
