agreed, can hardly wait for Charles "Mr. Chairman" Rangel to re-do his pathethic "impeachment" hearings. :roll: :roll: IMO, the Dems will have the same problem that the Republicans had trying to impeach Bill Clinton; ie. it's hard to convince the voters that the reasons for impeachment are legal and constitutional, not born out of animosity and hatred. It's kind of hard to explain that when you are frothing at the mouth at the mention of your opponent's name.

The reason they can't pursue impeachment is because if Bush & Cheney are impeached, then the Speaker of the House becomes President. That would be Nancy Pelosi. Now how would that look to the people?

Through no merit of my own, I got to watch the results come in last night with David Wilkins, our US ambassador, about 40 neo-con Harper staffers and myself (with big red "Liberal Target" tattooed on my forehead)

As results came in, nobody seemed too dissapointed, it wasn't jovial, but this was to be expected. You can just about put a ten year "best before" date on governments operating in Western democracies with functioning media. You have to be GREAT to survive in good graces longer than that, give or take a year on either side.

It happened here to the Liberals, it happened before to Mulroney and Campbell and to Reagan and Bush, it happened early for poor 'ol Clinton and Gore, maybe likewise for the Rep's in '08, and it'll likely happen for Blair and Brown sometime next year in the UK. The electorate wants to make sure they can still throw the bums out... sometimes even when the bums are doing a decent job.

Essentially, if you're in this often heartbreaking business long enough, you learn to live with the cycle. If you can be in the up swing for the better part of a decade or more, you've done really, really well. It's been twelve years for the Republican House, that's a good run for any political party.

These Bush-ites last night knew their time was up, but they all believe the cycle will make an unusually qucik swing and put them back on top in '08. It'll be interesting to see if they're right.

Bush may have become such a polarizing figure that when he himself is gone, Condi or McCain may be able to swing momentum back to the Republican party. Hillary-Obama vs. Rice-McCain would be fun to watch.

God help us all. I'm still hoping Giuliani runs for the GOP...though that notion is quickly waning. I really really don't like Hillary. I don't know why. Come to think of it, I don't really like Condi either.

Just because he's a man or because a man is more manly when it comes to national defense? :roll: I don't like Hillary coz she's got the same bad habit of most Democratic politicians of campaigning like a centrist and governing like a liberal. On the other hand, Hillary at least has a firm grasp of geopolitics. Al Gore is just a sun tanned enviromental blowhard.
