The Highway Girl Thread -
Ballgame - 11-02-2006
Stupid thread I know but I have this song stuck in my head and with 38 Years Old Being played it made me think of it. I use to have the double suicide show until all my CD's were stolen. I don’t think they've played it in a while so just thought we could talk about what a great song this is.
I read and article with Paul and he said they hate the way that album "sounds" so they don’t play any of the song anymore. Its such a classic and rocking tune. So for conversation who wants to hear it? Maybe I’ll record it on with my software and I’ll play it for you guys if the Hip wont haha.
Im in sales and I always ask for the business. So maybe one of the guys will see this thread...you just never know
Oh yeah if the Hip do play it please debut it in Philadelphia....please :jump
PS I love World Container

skippy the wonder dog - 11-02-2006
No.
The days of long and original rants are over. Without them, it's kind of a throwaway song.

I'd be interested in seeing it done after all these years. Even just for the sake of nostalgia, but that could go for any of the tunes on the EP.

The Darkest Canuck - 11-02-2006
you guys are crazy to not want to hear this! absoutely batshit fucking crazy!
what the hell is wrong with this place lately...we've got people who don't like IBE, M@W, and haven't even listened to IVL all the way through... people who don't want to hear Highway Girl...it's daft!

interesting. good points, I wouldnt want the rants either. But i do like the song. There are so many good tunes to pick from. Just curious since its been a while and everyone is going crazy over 38 years old because it hasnt been played before

huh, batshit fucking crazy, eh? I feel pretty normal. Meh, to each their own i guess and I'm with the batshit fucking crazy crowd.
I just don't think that Highway Girl fits with what they are playing now. I don't know if I ever thought that the EP should ever be played again. Not before and not now.
all for now,
aaron

I don't care if there's no rants, Highway Girl is one of my favourite songs, and I want to hear it!
Then again, I was at the "Fiddler's Green" concert, so I can't complain too much...

I'd also want to hear either "Small Town Bringdown or "Last American Exit" as oppose to Highway Girl. "Smalltown Bringdown" is the song that made me a Hip fan and would love hear it live in Sudbury.

The Darkest Canuck - 11-02-2006
i'd want Highway or Werewolf...Smalltown Bringdown would be appropriate to play in Sudbury though too...

yes, yes, and yes
As far as recruiting a new audience (which is something I think this album is about) no. But for fan of their entire catalog- abso-f'in-lutely.

Almost Hip - 11-02-2006
when was the last time a song from this album has been played??? it's gotta be early 90's think of how many Hip fans haven't gotten to hear anything off the EP, I would go nuts if I heard Highway Girl, and love it if I hear anything of that cd, of course we won't get the rants but the song still rocks, I listen to the regular version of the song all the time not just double suicide.

I said yes because its one of those rare old songs I've never experienced live. But that being said, I still also would like to see another midnight, opiated, last american exit, and small town bringdown added to the set lists too.
Sidenote...I was looking at my set lists for "An Evening With..." at the ACC on Dec. 23/2000 and for the second half of the show, Opiated (3rd song) is scribbled out with Penguin put in its place. I love EP, but man, opiated would have been great too!

Why does it all have to "fit" the newest material? Its all Hip. There are a few twangs here and there on WC that sound more '80's than their first EP to me, so why not? For them to pull out FG was amazing and totally unexpected. The Hip may not think so, but there are a few really good tracks on their debut EP.
