Well , the other day my daughter ( she's 2) comes into the computer room looks at me and says hip, hip, so on goes " in view" . She starts to dance around the room and shake her head to make her hair move,, then she asks me are you hip sometimes its are you hippy . Its a happy change from all the Wiggles and Doodle bop's songs I normally have to listen to with her.

My 18 month old boy - does the same thing - minus the are you hip -
I can play the whole CD and he does not seem to be listening - but when In View comes on well the one leg bounce step waving the arms begins... :lol:

My (almost) 2 year old can't get enough of Iron & Wine's "Freedom Hangs Like Heaven". He's hit and miss with the Hip, but he dances like crazy to Wilco and REM. Dylan and Johnny Cash get him going pretty consistently as well.

My daughter quite likes the Hip and for a while would request "Are We Family". Her biggest musical craving however, is anything Bob Marley...in fact she's somewhat obsessed, which is ok by me. Reggae in general has a very infectious groove which I think kids are drawn to.

Speaking of kids, this morning, while I was on the toilet after just waking up, my daughter (29 months) tuttles into the bathroom, her hair is messy and her eyes are squinty, she comes over to me, pats my back and says, "Daddy, you're my best friend". That's about as good as it gets in my books.

I wouldn't have put Iron & Wine down as dancing music. I only have 'the Creek Drank The Cradle' and haven't heard 'Freedom Hangs Like Heaven', so maybe that album is very different. Wink

Alternatively, you might find yourself living in my world, where you hear things like "Hillary Duff is waaaaay better than Bob Dylan," and find yourself sobbing in a corner after reading Billy's post, blubbering "bring back Buckwheat Zydeco." Smile

The best kids music is usually done by people who aren't "kids" performers. Kids' music has the same fault as most folk-revival nonsense: it's done by unctuous weenies who are more concerned with enunciating clearly than with making a joyful noise.
