A Hip fan is born! - mats - 06-25-2003

Here's a good one...
I take my 6 year old nephew (Jake) to the Jays game on Monday night. There is some traffic and it takes us forty minutes to get down to the stadium. After fifteen minutes of talking with each other, he starts looking through my CD's (he is much more artisticly inclined than he is sports - no worries), and he grabs a CD and says "Put this in, please put this in." He does not know that he has chosen the first Hip CD. So we throw it in and of course, Smalltown Bringdown is first,...WELL he goes nuts! He is screaming "Turn it up! Turn it up!" By now it's cranking pretty good. So the song ends and he says 'Again, Again..." So I play it again...over and over until we get to the game. So the whole time in the game he's singing to himself "Smalldown Bringaround" followed by "It's a sad day bobbin' all around" - Hilarity. Jays crush 'em again, and we leave.
Well, now it's a race back to the car to hear Smalldown Bringaround, we get in the car, we put it on and phone his Mom. Now his Mom is howling because all she can hear is him screaming "Turn it up, Turn it up".
No kidding, we played the tune from downtown T.O. to the far end of Burlington - 45 minutes - with him staring at me, both of us singing, trying to learn the lyrics. I must add, he even had the Gordie head-bob thing going - funny. So I drop him off at his Mom's and he runs inside, and I can hear him saying as I leave - "Mom, mom! - do we have Smalldown Bringaround here?"
Two things - Number one, that's what Uncles are good for - get them spinning like a top and drop them off (oops) and number two, another Hip fan is born!
I had to tell you. 8)
Anyone else have a Hip story with their kids/relatives?

Cute story!! Smile

I took my oldest son (age 4 at the time) grocery shopping and listened to Day For Night on the way...

We're standing at the checkout counter when he quietly begins singing "I come from downtown, born ready for you..."...the girl at the checkout counter (obviously a fan) can't stop laughing...

My son, completely oblivious to it, looks at me and asks "what's so funny, daddy?"...someday, he'll have kids of his own...

what i did was for my girls (Storm and Century) I would hold the speaker to my partners belly for all of her pregnancy. You should see Century, she's only turned 4 and she can hold a tune, knows the lyrics to all of CMG,i tell ya she does her old man proud. Storm is more of an intent listener, and she loves pounding on the pots and pans. But ya its great to see the kids have that feel that we as fans and lovers of The Hip know. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Keep your ears to the ground and your eyes to the sky
