A huge thanks to The Hip - bauer - 09-28-2006

Most if not all of the shows hold maximum 1000 people. So if tix cost 59.50 each concert is about $59500. They probably could have sold the tix for $159.50 and sold out each show. When you minus all the crap that goes with each show that costs money like travel and accomidation, road crews etc. The Hip really don't seem to making very much money. This is just one more example of how The Hip really appreciate their fans and are not in it for the cash.

I was thinking the same thing, im most excited about these shows as the fans at the shows are gonna be TRUE hip diehards, which will make the experiance even better!!

I don't share your sentiments exactly. On the one hand, I'm very thankful the band has managed to stay together all these years and overcome many of the pitfalls that beset so many other bands. I love and cherish their live experience and were I single and childless, I'd be going to many, many more shows.

That being said, I don't think $59.50 for a concert is that good of a deal. Then add $13 in TM fees and I'm out of pocket a whole whack of dough. I realize the fees are out of the bands control, but it still hits me in the face and pocketbook the same way. Sure the band may be able to charge more and get away with it as you mention, but that doesn't make the existing price any easier for me to swallow. I have a basement suite in my house that I know I could rent out for $250-300 more per month than I'm charging, but I don't because it isn't the right thing to do. I think I paid too much for these tickets, but oh well...love it or leave it, right?

I don't want to sound like a disgruntled fan, because I am grateful to be able to even see the Hip in my city and after all these years. I wouldn't have even said anything negative about this at all, but reading your post about how thankful you are stirred something up in me. The bottom line for me, despite what I begrudingly paid for tickets is that I'm very happy that I will be seeing them 2 nights in a row next month.

I hate to agree with Billy. I am so excited I finally got tickets after the ticketmaster messup on the first presale, but $60 a ticket is quite a bit of money. That being said, the going rate for first-class acts has risen considerably in the last few years. I look at the Rolling Stones show in Regina and tickets were all the way from $100 (no chance of seeing anything), to $300 (seeing way too much). Going to concerts is an expensive hobby. I will happily pay $60 to see the Hip, but if it was a band that I liked any less I simply wouldn't go.

I like hight ticket prices for events like this. If it was cheaper....it would be less risk for scalpers, and they would all horde the tickets...but because tickets are $60, lots of scalpers shy away, not knowing if they'l make any profit...sure there's the ones that know they will...just less of them.

If it were up to me, the hip would charge about $300 to get into the hipclub....and then they'd play small bars, with tickets available to hipclub members first.

I look at this way: I'd be paying the same for an arena show, and these will be far superior in all aspects save perhaps lighting and set design, so the price seems fair. Plus, supply goes way down, and demand stays up, so they could certainly gouge us for more.

well 60 bucks for a ticket plus service charges, although a considerable amount of money, is nowhere near what these washed up greed whores like the who, stones and elton john are charging for tickets these days. For arena shows no less.

Damn it Bauer...I was 99% convinced I wasn't going to go, but now you've got me thinking again! I know if I lived in Calgary I would be there for all 4 at $59.50 per show...my issue is figuring out the road trip logistics...I guess I've got another 16 hours to think about it!

I think $60 is a great price. Most shows you go to see at a bar are $15-20 and they are not The Hip. I was comparing ticket prices to The Stones where I bought 4 Tickets, two for each night, for close to $1300. Or say CSNY where I bought two tickets for $300. Most big shows now are minimum $60 for the worst seats in the house. $60 to see The Hip with 999 other people, I would have paid 2-3 times that much. I think The Hip could have easily charged more but chose not to. Even tickets to Stompin Tom were $70 and Gord Lightfoot were $75.

I just paid $43 for two tickets to see The Sadies open for Greg Keelor and then back him in a tiny bar here in Regina.....Now that is a steal

I think almost every ticket in Canada for the hip this year has been this price, except maybe the biger shows like Fort York, Guelph, and Montreal's July show.

Fort York was $60, and that was a huge festival, not a club.
