John Mayer Trio -

Does anybody have the cd called "Try" that he released last year? Is it any good? Not only does the drummer share the same first AND last name as me, but he is a great drummer also.

Mayer is quite a good guitar player supposedly but I've yet to hear him show his chops.

I have this CD. I happen to be a John Mayer fan (not as a teenage heart throb, but as a skilled guitar player) and this is better than his studio albums in that respect. It is very much a bluesy album with several covers and a couple renditions of his own songs.
You can say what you want about John Mayer, but he's a guitarist. This album highlights that quality of his and strips it down to the roots of bass and drums supporting him on guitar/vocals. I was not disappointed with this purchase.

Thanks. I'm listening to it now and I am digging some of the songs. He should stick to playing bluesy guitar IMO.

I think he's a solid guitar player, but I can't stand his first couple of albums. "Your Body is a Wonderland" is one of the worst songs ever written by anybody, and some of the other songs on those records were just as bad. But I've heard great things about his blues stuff. I'll have to check it out.

Got offered tix to see him and Sheryl Crow last night. Kind of regretting the fact that I turned them down. Would've liked to have seen him especially.

Just wanted to bump this thread as a friendly reminder for people to check out 'Try!', because it has been kicking my ass lately.
Lots of great stuff on here.
I just caught him on Austin City Limits over the break, and man, what a great performance / what a great performer.

Agreed, I'm a pretty big JM fan. I enjoy playing his music, it is quite challenging and some of his songs are pretty good...Yer Body is a Wonderland excepted...
And to top it off, this guy is a complete stud with the ladies, and you've gotta appreciate that...some highlights include Jessica "manjaw" Simpson, say what you will about her, but she's a full on 10. And my sleeper pic, Minka Kelly of "Friday Night Lights" fame on NBC. Do yourself a favour and check her out if you're not sure who she is.

And what a body it is.......
Mayer can still play the hell out of a guitar though.

That is the greatest nickname I've ever heard! Kudos to you for that one, Goulet!
The more I listen to this album, the more I like it!

I really like John Mayer. Continuum is one of the better albums I've listened to, Gravity especially is one of the better songs.
