Best/Worst Cover songs - tth_fan - 08-04-2006

There's no limit of covers out there. Almost every band has done a cover, whether it be on an album or in a concert.
SO, what are the BEST and the WORST Covers out there???

To get it started:
One of the best: A little help from my friends- Joe Cocker (original The Beatles)
One of the Worst: In My Life- Ozzy Osbourne (orignial The Beatles)

- The Horrible Esthete - 08-04-2006

GREAT:

1. Stevie Ray Vaughn doing both Hendrix' "Little Wing" and "Voodoo Child"
2. Lynnard Skynnard's cover of J.J. Cale's "They Call Me the Breeze"

DEPLORABLE:

1. Rod Stewart's cover of Tom Waits' "Downtown Train"
2. Tina Turner's cover of Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love"

I agree with a lot of your list, but this should be "The Who", not Neil Young.

I'd like to add the PJ does a great version of Harvest Moon as well, which is by Neil Young

Here's my contribution, they're mostly live so don't expect to find them in a store somewhere. They're also ones I like

Tea Party w/Edwin - I'm Affraid of Americans (Bowie)
Rheostatics - anything by Stompin Tom
Stompin Tom - I've Been Everywhere Man (Cash, I think maybe he covered it as well)
Tea Party w/Steven Page - Under Presure (Queen/Bowie)
Big Sugar - Let It Ride (BTO, I think)
Faith No More - War Pigs (Black Sabbith)
Rage Against the Machine - Maggies Farm (Dylan)
A Perfect Circle - Fiddle and the Drum (Joni Mitchell)

Ones I don't like

A Perfect Circle - People Are People (Depeche Mode)
Oasis - anthing by the Beatles
Orgy - Isn't everything they do a cover?
Gob - Paint It Black (Rolling Stones)

That is all I've got for now.

A few that no one's mentioned...

Good:
-- Pearl Jam, "People Have The Power" (although really, anything they cover they cover well)
-- Bruce Springsteen, "Detroit Medley"
-- The Headstones, "Tweeter and the Monkey Man"
-- Wide Mouth Mason, "Superstition" (frigging brilliant live)
-- The Beatles covering early Motown is generally awesome; check out the Live at the BBC album to see what I mean.

Bad
-- The Wallflowers, "Heroes"
-- Britney Spears, "Satisfaction" (I know, I know...)

Steve
