Dont know if im using the right words, but i think i am, what songs have the hip used or sang in concert which are not their own. I know they did Black Day in July, which is one of my fav songs of theirs, but what else have they done...

i think they should cover David Bowie's "Hang Onto Yourself"...i listened to Ziggy last night, and couldn't help but think how kick ass that cover would be, it seemed to me as though it'd be perfect for Gord to sing...

Train kept A Rolling is my favorite, this is an Aerosmith cover, they also have done Please Don't Go which Aerosmith have themselves covered too. And there are plenty of examples of Gordie quoting song lyrics in various live versions of HIP songs, my personal fav is when he sang "Of all dreamers and lovers no-one else compares to you..." (Beatles) at the end of Nautical Disaster when they played SNL. And when he sang "And I'm leaning on this broken fense between past and present tense, and I'm losing all those stupid games I swore I'd never play, and it feels OK..." (Weakertons) at the JUNOS during Grace 2 (had the best ring to it)...

JJ Cale cover (I Believe) "I Can Only Give You Everything"

This is one of my favorite covers by them - and they have been doing it I think at least as far back as 1996, and I know I heard it in Syracuse last tour.
They usually played it in 100th - maybe NOIS sometimes - if I remember correctly - and some of the older versions were almost a complete song - still one of my favorites every time they pull it out.

Huh. I could've swore that what Gord sang was from The Skydiggers' song, Not a Penny More. Did the Skydiggers channel the Beatles too?

I Can Only Give You Everything and Baby Please Don't Go are Them songs. They've covered JJ Cale's I'll Make Love To You Anytime.

More recently I've discovered that the "It's the song I hate" intro to Fire in the Hole is from Sonic Youth's Youth Against Facism.

Vancouver 99, In the Middle of NOIS, Gordie sings a lot of "Over the Neptune / Mesh Gear Fox" by Guided By Voices.


Susie Q is my favorite cover by them, and then Baby Please Don't Go with the classic rant....I wonder how Gordie's friend Rock is doing now...

the most famous version of train was done by the yardbirds, however it was written in 1953 by a guy named Tiny Bradshaw..just some useless music trivia for ya
