Sam Roberts at the Stampede - direwolf74 - 07-10-2006

Great show tonight! Sammy and the boys rocked the hell out of the place as usual. It was my first time seeing them since the new album came out, and the new tunes sound amazing live. "Mind Flood" was especially brilliant. 10 glorious minutes of kick-ass rock n' roll bliss. I don't remember the exact setlist, but here's what they played in no particular order:

The Resistance
The Gate (much more intense than the album version)
Paranoia
Hard Road
Bridge to Nowhere
Uprising Down Under (beautiful!)
Mind Flood
Brother Down
Dead End
With a Bullet
Don't Walk Away Eileen (this one never fails to bring the house down)
Where Have All the Good People Gone (great crowd sing-a-long)

There was one other song they played during the encore that I didn't recognize. Perhaps an unreleased b-side?? The setlist looks short on paper, but they jammed out on a few of the songs with a couple of them going well past the 10-minute mark. They were on stage for at least 90 minutes.

Any idea what some of the lyrics were?

They've broken out their cover of "Hurry On Sundown" again recently, so it very well could have been that. Hit me with a PM if you'd like.

After the Bala show last week, I'm even more excited for the freebies throughout the province over the next six weeks.

Cheers,

Pat

I think that was it!

Good to hear. Did you get rained on? I was going to make the trek down to the grounds and catch the show, but after spending 5 hours at Stampede earlier in the day, I was just too bushed.

The storm had passed by the time I got down there, and the sky cleared up just before Sam hit the stage. It was perfect.

I'm going to the show in Dundas a day or two before that. I can't wait!

wish I could've made it down on Sunday. We got rained out building my buddy's garage and wanted to go but due to the huge building day followed by beers until 2 in the morning the day before and a full day Sunday until the rain we were too bagged to make it.

Hopefully I'm in on Sunday for the Matt Mayes show though. That should be good as well.

I'm heading down on Thursday evening to see Corb Lund...the only thing that'll get me on the grounds anymore is a decent concert
