What next? :: Album Recommendations... -
Zenith - 07-08-2006
Hello all,
I'm a relative newbie to The Hip, and currently I only own to albums ('Up To Here' and 'Music @ Work') plus 'Yer Favourites'. So, I was wondering what albums people think I should get next (in essential order if you see what I mean? )
I really like songs like 'No Threat', 'Bobcaygeon', 'At The Hundredth Meridian', 'My Music At work', 'Courage' etc - but I also really like the sound of 'Lionized' from the gig last night.
So, what would be a good place to begin buying albums?
Cheers
Ben

I always think its good to go from oldest to newest, that way you can see how the band has evolved and experience them the way the older fans have. For you its all relatively new, but I had to wait for each album to come out not knowing what I was about to hear, its been a great journey...take it.
So do this order..
The Tragically Hip EP
Road Apples
Fully Completely
Day for Night
Trouble at the Henhouse
In Violet Light
In Between Evolution.

3 of your selections are on Fully Completely (100th, Courage, Lionized). The rest of the album is amazing as well.
My favorite album is still Road Apples...

Thanks for the list, lizardking.

I like your way of thinking.

...However, I might buck the trend and get 'Fully Completley' next in that case.

Well, you cant go wrong with any of their albums and hopefully you plan on attaining all of them. Fully Completely was my first Hip album, however my favourite will always be a tie between Trouble at the Henhouse and Phantom Power. Ofcourse you can never go wrong with what lizardking said about going oldest to newest.

My favourite album is Day for Night, but like everyone else has said, you can't really go wrong here.

Dude.
Phantom Power, Fully Completely and Day for Night are ESSENTIAL!
go, now, NOW!
Then get some Boots, like Hengelo and all the live downloads...plus hit up the tracker. now now now.

After re-reading your post I see you already own Yer Favourites. In that case, 7 of the 12 songs on Fully Completely you already own.
I agree with LizardKing51 and think you should go oldest to newest, which means Road Apples would be up next and then Fully Completely. 6 of the 12 songs from Road Apples are also on Yer Favourites. However, its missing the 5 tracks from RA that will forever be in my Top 20...the luxury, bring it all back, fight, on the verge, and last of the unplucked gems.

Zenith, you're one up on me... I own nothing by The Hip (everything I have belongs to my good lady). On my iPod there's In Violet Light and a bunch of iTunes downloads.

They are a real unknown force over in Blighty aren't they

It's nice to know I'm not the only Hip newbie though - I'm looking forward to my education.
