Well, i went down the aisle this past week. the last of the Sam Malone's was the battle cry. The Tragically Hip were a major role role in the meeting, courtship, and wedding to my bride. My friends and i had stopped at local bar on July 11th, 2003 for a nightcap. We was going to see Gord play a solo gig the next night in Cleveland and didn't want to have a nasty hangover for the road trip so it was just for a few. A guy next to us overheard our concert plans and called his niece over and laughed because we were raving about some band called The Tragically Hip, the same band she never quit talking about. I never believed in love at first sight but its a moment i'll never forget. we discussed all the Hip shows we had seen and how many times we were at the same concerts.
I had told her of my weekend road trip to see Gord and promised to drop her an e-mail when i returned. We have been inseperable since. Without the common thread of the Hip i'd probably still be holding up my 1980's era Cheryl Ladd poster with one hand. [sorry ladies :oops: }
So when they introduced the wedding party it was to the song "GRACE TOO." The wedding party dance song was " ARE WE FAMILY." Thru the night i had them play "POETS" and "HIGHWAY GIRL/double suicide."
The final song was taken from Gord's solo tour, the show i had seen in Cleveland the night after we met, " IF YOU GOTTA GO, GO NOW."
The line "if you gotta go, go now, or else you gotta stay all night" also held a special meaning. {
wink wink :thumb: }We'll be there for the show in Lewiston, NY on July 17th which also happens to be 3 years to the day of our first official date.So i gotta give the The Tragically Hip a big Thanks for being the common thread that brought us together and to all the friends we've made along the way. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I don't know if it is because I am tired, or that I have been turned soppy by my wife and 2 kids, but I was actually filling up there.

Well, i errored when i said the Lewiston, NY show would be 3 years till the day of our first official date. its actually 2 years and 11 months to the date. you know how women are an anniversary dates. now i find my pillow and blanket on the couch and i'm looking thru boxes for my Cheryl Ladd poster. ahhhhh the married life!!

That is an excellent story! Kudos to you both. Like D, I welled up too. We should all be so lucky as to find a mate that share the same love that is the Hip.

strange how the hip don't get mad when you forget tour dates in the way that girls get mad about missing anniversaries...
