Pearl Jam Bootlegs - Lizard King - 05-08-2006

Great news the bootlegs will continue for the upcoming PJ tour. Just got an email..

"Hey PJ Fans-

Some exciting new information about the Official Bootlegs for the 2006
World Tour!

First off, we will be offering multiple audio formats on the 2006 tour.
Downloads in both MP3 (compressed) and FLAC (full resolution) formats will
be offered of every show. The price per show for MP3 will remain $9.99 and
the price for FLAC will be $14.99.

Secondly, to facilitate the increased audio quality and choices for fans,
the shows will typically be available for download the evening following
the performance. In some rare circumstances, it may not be until 2 days
after the show.
Besides audio, all downloads will still include photographs from the show
as well as set list and cover artwork.

Please visit http://bootlegs.pearljam.com <http://bootlegs.pearljam.com/>
to shop for shows from the 2005 tour as well as the first show from the
Vault series (More to come!). In a couple of days the first leg of 2006
will be loaded into the system. At that point you can pre-buy any show you
like and set the software to "Automatically download when available".

Enjoy the tour!

Q. Why are the FLAC files $14.99?
A. FLAC files are full resolution and better sounding, and thus
significantly larger than MP3 files. Offering them to fans involves a
significant production price increase for us at every step in the process.

Q. Why are the shows being delayed a day this time?
A. The simple answer is that FLAC files are too large to upload in a
timely manner from the venue. The only way to make FLAC available is to
delay the process until the next evening."

Sweeet, I love this concept, although I cant make it to the shows this time around, at least I can still hear them and enjoy them in some way, I love it.

Thanks PJ!!!!!!!!

p.s: I really wish the Hip would do this too.

That really is great news! I am not able to make any of the shows this time around either because of money constraints but it will be great to be able to listen to the tour...in FLAC no less.

The Hip really need to start doing this. Whether it be hiring some fans to do it or including a production team with their road crew, I don't think it would be a lost cause. Every Hip fan knows that you get something new every night, whether it be a new rant, a slower/faster version of a song, or even an unreleased gem. I think there are enough people that would jump at the chance to download some of this stuff. Just look at the popularity of the Song of the Day.

Finally, something like this would be even more cause for Sinclair to mix up the setlists from night to night. You know, reach back into their catalog for even more "lost" tracks.

Good on PJ for giving their fans exactly what they want!

Maybe you're right, maybe your not. All I know is there are over 2,500 registered users to the tracker and we are still growing in popularity. How hard would it be to allow a couple of known quality tapers tap into the soundboard and produce some decent recordings? Heck, it is clear that the band already records every show, just get one of the folks that are currently working for them (MAv or anyone on his team, this Aaron guy who is converting all the archived shows in the vault) to go through and normalize the files, put in track markers, and convert them to FLAC's. We have enough people around here that can create covers and take pictures at shows that this could be done (IMO anyways) at a pretty low cost.

But I could be very off base on this one...
