Kind of a bizarre list. I mean: Syd Barrett? Bob Dylan?

These guys are not known for their guitar work. Barrett in particular....

I refuse to vote for Baker or Langlois, on the grounds that they're not yet put out to pasture and therefore can't be called "classic rock" guitarists. Smile

Well, technically, David Gilmour is still on the go, but I would definitely call him a classic rock guitarist. However, in my mind, the Hip have never really classified as classic rock. They're too recent.

Well around here (Calgary) the only time I hear the Hip on radio is on 107...the classic rock station. At what point does rock become classic? When I was in highschool (late 87-90) I soaked up all the "classic rock" that I could, so as to better understand where today's music was coming from. I listened to: Floyd, Zeppelin, BTO, Beatles, Stones, Rush, CCR, Black Sabbath...you get the idea. Back then, many of those bands were younger, in terms of years in existance as a band, than the Hip are right now. Yet they were still all considered classic rock. So how do you define what is classic and what is not? It can't simply be a specific time frame, ie. the 60's-70's...that's way too limiting. I personally think "classic" should be bestowed on a band who has been around for a certain length of time (maybe 20 years, but even that is a tough one to call) and has made a significant impact on both the music industry and the fans alike. Using that criteria, the Hip most certainly can be classified as classic rock. Having said that, being considered classic doesn't discaount you from also being current and relevent, as the Hip are also proving themselves to be.

IN southern Ontario, the hip gets a ton of airplay on the main rock stations, and not too much on the classic rock stations

Q107 plays them a fair bit... And so does Rock 95 (granted, they play everything, so that's not a great comparison)....

I hear them on 103.9 classic rock in London once in awhile, and its usually something from UTH or RA.

But are the Hip "classic rock"? I dont think so, not yet anyway.

You'll notice that they called him "Bobby" Baker. So, perhaps they're referencing his work from almost 20 yrs ago. That's classic.

Anyway, the Edge is on the list too. U2 has hardly been put out to pasture either. But, both U2 and the Hip have been inducted into Music Halls of Fame. That's classic too.

They're calling it The 40 Most Influential Classic Rock Guitarists of All Time. As far as that goes you can't judge on the merits of their guitar ability, so Dylan is definitely way up on the list.

It's great to see Baker on the list with all the greats from the past 40 years. Deserving of the list, although, I'd agree, he's not quite Classic yet.

i would say that anything FC or older is classic rock...anything from DFN and on i would classify as alt-rock...

Why not? New Orleans is Sinking has more in common with a lot of classic rock than it does with current new rock. I think you can consider The Hip as classic rock. Just because that's now a "style" of music - not because they're over the hill...

I voted for Baker. Only cause I love the hip.

The real king on that list is Stevie Ray, hands down.
