I was playing with a buddies ebow a while back. First time i've even heard about the thing. I always thought that those sounds were studio made...

It's a fun toy (like every thing else for guitar) I don't know how much it costs...but if you're looking to form a Bowie cover band, it's probably a good investment.

We used one in a few places on my band's EP. It's a neat toy, but not really worth purchasing unless you're dead set on being in a prog rock band.

I don't think you need to be in a prog rock band to use one, check out R.E.M's album "new adventures in hifi" for some notable ebow use.

I used to have one of these, but lost it somewhere along the way and I liked it enough that I've considered buying a new one even though they cost something like $100.

Yea, I just made the prog rock comment as we've gotten a lot of criticism about the ebow usage.

To me, buying any device or effect pedal all comes down to a matter of personal taste and preference. I used to love them, now I tend to avoid effects altogether as I hate relying on stompboxes to actually work onstage. I have the worst luck with that sort of thing.
