RANT: Just a couple of the reasons that I hate Rogers... -
chris - 03-28-2006
I'm moving into a new condo on April 1. It is a Rogers-only building which means that I have no choice but to use Rogers if I want TV, home phone and/or internet. On February 23 I called Rogers to book my move. At that time they confirmed everything for April 1, and gave me a new phone number.
On March 22, my cable was disconnected. I called in to see what was going on and learned that a technical glitch sent the disconnect order early. During this same conversation I also learned that they lost my pending move order, and gave my phone mumber to someone else meaning I have to redo all my condo/moving/mortgage paperwork with another phone number.
Rogers then scheduled an appointment to reconnect me on March 23 between 5 and 8pm. I left work early and when I got home I discovered that they had already been out and reconnected me - proving I didn't need to be home, and that they do not stick to their schedule.
On March 24, I came home and found my cable disconnected... again. So I call in. No record of my move order, just a disconnect order. Again they schedule a reconnect and ensure that my move order is in place... but this time it is for April 4!
Jump ahead to March 26, and surprise, surprise, my cable has been disconnected. I call in and it's another technical glitch that sent the disconnect order.
So last night I told the Senior Supervisor - Management Support dude to call me this morning between 9 and 10am, while all the Rogers offices are open to fix this problem. Anyone wanna guess if he called?? Nope. So now I'm on hold again with Rogers.
Through into the mix that Rogers Internet service is terrible, and they block torrents, and they limit your monthly transfers and you've got a really pissed off guy!
Stay tuned as the saga continues...

Ouch, sorry to hear that Chris. I hate when these big companies screw people around and don't give a shit about it. I hope you kick their ass Chris!

When I lived in Vancouver and Rogers was serving that area (now served by Shaw) they kept f*cking up the installation of cable and Internet to our new condo. After the third missed appointment I was on the phone with a CSR rep and told them that if someone wasn't there by the end of the day I was going to switch to ExpressVu. The CSR rep said:
go ahead.
Rogers hasn't seen one penny of my money since. I won't use their wireless service, I won't use their video stores, and when I'm back in Toronto visiting friends and family I won't go to Jays games unless the tickets have been given to me. Worst. Company. Ever.

I'd gladly tell them I'm putting all my services with Bell, but the developer has signed some contract with Rogers preventing me from using any other provider.

Thats a bunch of shit imo, where are we China? I assume you knew that before you moved in, but still where's the freedom of choice? I wouldnt move somewhere if they told me I had to have a certain phone, satellite, internet service or whatever, I should be able to choose whatever I want. The only way thats ok is if the service cant be provided in a certain area/region then its different.

This news was not made known until 2 months ago... 10 months after I purchased.
I just called the builder to complain, and they are now claiming that Bell is allowed in.... so now Bell is on the case, and guarantees an answer by tomorrow morning.

I have had similar stories..... I moved into my girlfriends condo last December, and upgraded to the PVR from my digitial cable box. I tried to return it to the store where we had to go set up the move, and the guy told me to give it to the cable guy when he came.
I did give it to the highlyreekingofpot cable guy. Then on my next bill i was charged 200$ for "unreturned equipment".
After 30 minutes of talking to a guy, he reveresed it pending if they find the box. A month later, the charge is back. The girl has "no idea" why. She'd look into it. She phones back and leaves a message the next day saying "it's been taken care of".
Next bill.... still there. Whoops, they posted the credit to my old account, and not the new one. Finally they got it squared away.
The only reason I went with Rogers is I don't want an Expressvu dish hanging over the balcony, but that's becoming mroe and more attractive with time.....
And Chris,Chris, I agree about the torrents. I don't download anything anymore. Taking a week or 2 to downlaod a hip show from the tracker is not my idea of fun.........

Sweet! Good luck Chris.
And I'd tell you to be sure to tell Rogers about your experience but since they are the most arrogant company I've ever dealt with, I don't think it matters.

It's a tough situation for me as my sister works for Rogers, and my brother-in-law (other sisiter's husband) works for Bell (neither one has anything to do with these issues... IPTV and publishing)
Additionally, Rogers is one of my better clients....

Chris.
When you saw the move in date of April 1st, did you think 1 single thing would have gone right being April Fool's Day?

Actually... the closing date is March 29, so I thought I would be safe. I chose April 1 as the actual move date as it was the first weekend and would get me out of my current rental without having to pay for another month or rent and a month of occupancy fees.
The joke's really on me.

Ok, other than the fact that I don't really torrent too often - so I haven't noticed this aspect of the service, my personnal connection to Rogers has been OUTSTANDING. I have Rogers extreme, I get super fast downloads, it's been up continuously for almost four months straight.
I used to have a dsl and got rid of it. I'm on a bell connection right now, and it SUCKS!!!
My PVR is another thing entirely though. I went through at least FIVE last summer. They kept frying. My current one is ok, but I expect it to die soon too. Though, I love the service, the interface isn't so good.
Good luck Chris Chris.
