NHL Trade Deadline -
Lizard King - 03-08-2006
Not much action at the moment, but I thought it would be a good idea to keep things updated as trades unfold. As of right now this is all that's happened..
Edmonton trades No.1 Draft Pick and a conditional draft pick to Minnesota for G-Dwayne Roloson.

Some good news for Leaf fan's too. The Bruins have taken Mariusz Czerkawski off waivers, ones man's garbage is another's treasure I guess.. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=157665&hubname=

grumble grumble.... I would have much rather seen Cujo back or Biron in Edmonton.....
A first rounder for a 36 year old goalie...... I will bite my tongue and see how this works out.....

How is this possibly good news? Czerkawski, a player who has shown he can play, was not given a chance at all this year. He was literally ONE man's garbage: Pat Quinn. Czerkawski gets his walking papers and Antropoo plays every night. If Paul Maurice is not the Leafs' head coach by next season I will be very upset.

hock:
Where did Czerkawski prove he could play? Three years ago the Habs had him playing in the minors. Last year he racked up a whopping 24 points in 46 games in the
Swedish Elite League. In ten NHL seasons he's played for five different teams. Czerkawski is the perfect description of how all European players used to be perceived: tons of talent, no heart, no work ethic, and no desire to backcheck. Much like with Jeff O'Neill and China Doll Lindros, this is a JFJ gamble that didn't pan out.
However, Czerkawski's ex-wife is HOT.

That being said, I agree it is time for a change behind the bench.

My point isn't that Roloson is 36.... heck, look at Hasek, who's 41!
I just don't think they should have given up a first round draft pick for him....... Edmonton has extra defence they could have given for him........

Well, what I think this speaks to is the asking price for Biron must be incredibly high. If they had to give up a 1st rounder for Roloson, I can only imagine who Buff-a-hole was asking for.
But I do love the Mythology of Cujo, who is
easily the most overrated goalie in NHL history. He's never done a damn thing - never even been close - but many hockey fans I know mention his name in the same breath as Roy and Brodeur, which is simply ridiculous.
-
Gangrel - 03-08-2006
I read someone in the paper or something the Buffalo has come out and said Biron is NOT being traded, only Norenen... so that was out.
I don't mind Roloson, in fact I hope!!! he turns out to be a good pick up. I mean, can't get any worse can it? I just think the price was too high, though it's been known for months that Edmonton needs a goalie, so most teams probably were holding guns to their head........
Perhaps they can make a trade for some scoring help.....

now the cup is ours!!!!!!!

The Leafs just got older.
They acquired 36 year old Luke Richardson from Columbus in exchange for a conditional draft pick (either a fifth round pick in 2006 Entry Draft or fourth round pick in 2007).
-
schaggs - 03-08-2006
Leafs trade a fifth and conditional fourth round pick for Luke Richardson.
The Sharks trade for Niemmenen or whatever.
So far, nothing big...
Wait till tomorrow when the Leafs sign Wendel Clark, Gary Leeman, Dave Ellett, Drake Berehowsky, and Nikolai Borschevsky to long-term deals.

Sigh. I've tried to defend JFJ, but this makes absolutely no sense. Hey, you know what we need? Another slow footed d-man to complement Aki Berg, Ken Klee and Wade Belak!
Excuse me while I go light myself on fire.

They've already signed Clark.......he's a community rep. for the Leafs.
