I know. But I'm getting married in Sept. and want to learn to play ahead by a century and sing to my wife @ the wedding. No real experience. Know a few chords. Is this possible? How if so?

Go to Chris' website...http://tabs.hipfans.com to find the ABAC tab. You'll want to focus on the tab that is done by Steve Fissel as it is very accurate....but....you'll need to work on tuning your guitar in Open C and you'll need to pick up a capo. Once you've got that down, you can just work on the timing as it's not an overly hard song to master...but if you are new it might take some time and patience. There are certainly easier songs in the Hip catalogue to go with that would do the trick for you but if you're dead set on ABAC then that's fine too.
Have fun....good luck cheeseman!!

What you want to do is really practice lipsynching... that is really impressive at a wedding, plus you'll have all of the talent that Gord Downie has, and you won't even have to do much.

the tuning is really weird but I have notes on it from when my teacher taught me.

The tuning doesn't have to be weird.... it just requires more reaching if you don't.

You
can play it in the standard tuning and do some reaching, but it won't sound quite right, because....well....it's
not quite right...

It can be played in standard tuning pretty easy, I do it all the time. Just D and C for the verse and G and A for the choruses. They are right that it doesn't sound exact, but she's not gonna notice, and even if she does, what's she gonna do? Call you on it during your
wedding?

ya it can be played in regular tuning no problem. just use the pinky to reach for the 5th fret on the high E. and baddabomb baddabing.
