JOHNNY DAMON - The Darkest Canuck - 12-21-2005

NOW A YANKEE! how's that for a new CF? MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME! MERRY CHRISTMAS MERRY CHRISTMAS...MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!

the only player i liked from the BoSox, now a Yankee, the man who single handedly broke the curse with one mighty swing of the bat, now a Yankee...

methinks this could be the start of a whole new curse 8).

i may puke. The yankees still have AROD who has never won anything so im not too worried about them. Johnny Damon is an outstanding player but I dont think he will fit in to that clubhouse one bit.

When asked by the Boston media about the stunning news of his signing with the hated Yankees, specifically, how difficult it would be for him mentally to face his old Red Sox teammates in a pinstripped uniform, Johnny Damon had the following statement:

UNGA BUNGA!!

Wow. Opening Day last season sure feels like a million years away now. They can find a way to keep a 100-year old stadium together but not a 25-man championship roster? I'm not that sad to see Damon leave as his durability seems a little suspect, not to mention his arm that requires two cut off men, but still, this "purge" of the 2003-2004 team is a little much.

Confusedcratch:

He throws like a girl (no offense girls)

hahaha he has to have the worst arm in the major leagues, but he can hit.

- lilbones - 12-21-2005

he's good, but 2 years too long, i understand boston's resistance to shelling out 4 years, which it appears they would have done, just not as much money.

Of course, the yanks can spend as much as they want, so it's a good deal for them...when he's no longer effective, they'll just get another guy and pay 'em both.

- The Darkest Canuck - 12-21-2005

yup, and his arm is better than Bernie's at least, i wonder who else they'll sign before the season starts...i don't think Boston is going to score the most runs again next season Smile, hehehehehehehe.

This just goes to show that the rivalry and hatred between the BoSox and Yankees is a joke. If the hatred was as severe as the media dramatizes, Damon wouldn't think of signing with the Yankees.

Yep. The players could care less about the rivalry. They just play their role so Fox and their baseball crew can hype the games like they're life and death or something. If Jeter played for the Toronto Blue Jays he'd be considered a good player. With the Yankees, he's talked about like he's on the level of Ted Williams or something. It's 95 percent hype. All sports are mostly hype including hockey, basketball, football but this rivalry is taking it to extremes. I mean, Curt Schilling pitched with a little blood on his sock from his ankle and us fans are supposed to pause our lives and worship at his feet????

- joshwayy - 12-21-2005

The rivalry is with the fans, not the players. Well I guess not always...I'm sure Varitek would gladly kick Gayrod's ass any place, any time.

True that. Most ball players seem to be all about the $$$ these days... Damon for one sure proved he is. This just gives fans of each team more reason to taunt/hate each other.

You know what would be more fun than a Yankees/Red Sox game? A game between a set of diehard Yank fans on one side and a set of diehard "Sawx" fans on the other. It would turn into a bloodsport faster than you can say "Johnny Damon, New York Yankee".

- The Darkest Canuck - 12-23-2005

Sheffield would lay the smackdown on any of the red sox in a brawl, including Ortiz and Ramirez, end of discussion...

not to mention Matsui would bust out with his Ninjitsu and clean house ...

and introducing, starting in Centre Field, JOHNNYYYYYYYYY DAAAAAAAMON!
