sick of poker being broadcasted on 'sports' channels - kleh - 12-15-2005

like seriously, wtf

most nights around 8pm i channel surf in hopes to find a nba or nhl game to catch and most nights it's some lame ass pokerstars event

which is considered a sport how & why?

i understand sportsnet & the score had a huge void to fill last year due to the hockey strike but enough if enough

anyway ill shut up now and keep sending my emails to those channels

I cant stand it and still have not figured out why poker is so popular.

- robert goulet - 12-15-2005

I really don't see it on TV all that much anymore in comparison to last year...the only regularly scheduled Poker shows are at 4:00 on City TV on Sundays and Saturday Night Poker on Sportsnet...correct me if I'm wrong but that ain't too much if you ask me. You'll see it on The Score every now and then, but come on, who watches the Score anyways.

As far as why it is so popular I guess it's one of those things that you have to play to figure out...I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't like hockey and wonder why it is so popular. I'll agree that I don't think it is a sport...hell it's not even close to a sport...it is a profession for some and entertainment for many more. I for one love it and play a great deal both on-line as well as live and I hope more people continue to pick it up because that just means more money for me.

Goulet!!!

Poker should be shot in the face, if it had a face.

I've played some texas hold'em in my day, but it's unwatchable. It's one of the worst things to happen to sports television, maybe even worse than the sportsnet hockeycentral panel or even Pierre Maguire (That lilbones delivers monster zingers. MONSTER. HE DIONED ME!)

Now if they had Maguire commentating poker, I'd cancel my cable on principle alone.

LOL!

And with the World Juniors Tourny on our doorstep one can bet that Pierre will have his "monster of the game". He deserves to be shot.

I dont mind watching poker once in a whilem but I agree that is has no placeon sports channels. I have yet to see Jody Vance or Jay Onrait take us through a poker game on the morning highlights...

I liked watching that 1 they did from Vegas with Dave Foley and that one poker xpert, and they had all those stars, pretty funny shit some of it....

Excuse me if this off the subject a little bit, but just take a guess at how much I can bench press. Come on, what do you think? Take a guess. 315 pounds, maxing out at 400!

- kleh - 12-16-2005

glad to see i'm not the only one

on a side-note i've seen many friends and friends of friends who became hooked on it since as well, worst case is the ppl who bet online and lose paycheck after paycheck

Maguire's another subject that doesn't need to be on Sports tv

For Poker, something had to come up when hockey died for a year, but I still don't get why it's as big as it got, I never got into that much compared to some of my friends, and I'm also sick of seeing it on tv, it's like watching bowling or some other low rated tv sport(although bowling may be higher than hockey in the States)

Are they still petitioning to make poker an Olympic event? I heard that a while ago and thought - how on earth is that a sport.
