Something also happened with the windsor OHL team..no cancel to the season..just some fines and game suspensions. I saw a clip on the news, it looked like a practice..and these two members of a team broke out into a fight, the instigator got a 5 game suspension, and locked in the bathroom of the bus on the ride home from London. For this, the coach was supended and fined.

^ Re Spitfires ... I heard something about five rookies being locked naked in a bus bathroom. And also about a fight between team members. Not sure how the two are related. It was reported to me through a sleepy haze this morning by CBC.

i can't believe the spits made TSN and CBC for that!... definitely the only time I've seen TSN reporting from here...

anyway, i think the stations and that article covers it well enough, it's been all over the Star these last couple weeks, lol.

The incident began when a number of veterans locked the naked rookies in the bathroom during the bus ride. One of the rookies was offended and started the fight you've seen on t.v. during practice later on.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up nutsac...I can't believe that would happen on a TEAM.

I remember our Juvie team used to do that on the bus ride to Gravenhurst. Idiots.

Worse inititation I ever heard of involved the Guelph Storm, one of their vets and his sister. I won't go any further.

There's no place for this kind of stuff in sport.

Pretty sick stuff... you'd think that athletes today would have moved beyond the neanderthal jock mindset... the majority have, of course, but unfortunately these incidents prove that not all of them have.

I'm not totally sure what the appropriate punishment would be in the McGill football incident, but kudos to Dave Branch as commissioner of the OHL for coming down so hard in his punishment to Moe Mantha of the Windsor Spitfires.

I also heard that one of the veterans involved in both incidents, Steve Downie, has left the team and asked to be traded... he supposedly is a leading candidate to be named to the Canadian world junior team this year, but with his involvement in the fight (and assuming he played as much of a role in the hazing incident as has been rumoured) I hope he doesn't get named to the team... I wouldn't even ask him to come to the team to be the stickboy.

I'm a McGill student and very happy to hear that they [finally] took action here. Man, this place is coasting on its reputation.

Am I the only one who thinks McGill dropped the ball on this one? For a school that preaches a "zero tolerance" policy on hazing, the only punishment they seem to have doled out in-house was to phone in the last two games of the season. Consider the team was 1-5 and wasn't going to make the playoffs anyway and that seems like a half-assed attempt to rectify the situation to me (pardon the pun).

The coaches and athletic director get off scott free and the vice-president was on the FAN590 last night saying that after a lengthy review of the matter the school has decided that there will be NO player SUSPENSIONS or EXPULSIONS as a result of this.

Hopefully, the CIS will step in and hand out some real punishment...If they're serious about putting an end to this crap, I'm thinking a one-year ban from competing ought to drive the point home (again, pardon the pun).

On the plus side, apparently the student in question has been offered admission to U of T starting in January...

In my mind, the Windsor thing would pale by comparison but for one main factor...the coach was ON THE BUS while the thing happened, and by extension thereby condoned it...

I don't think the majority have at all. I think there is a silent majority out there. I can't imagine what it would be like to be 16 years old and be faced with the option of doing something completely degrading or being completely ostracized by half the team. Kudos to those who have the balls to stand up and say no. I know I certainly wouldn't have.
