Ive had a 6GB ipod mini for a while now, and to make a long story short, my dad got a free ipod shuffle for switching banks, and since he has no use for it he gave it to me, and since my wife wanted one of her own, I gave it to her. My question is, how do you set up 2 ipods on one computer? I know apple made it so you can't, for piracy reasons, but a guy at the apple store here said it can be done, he told me to make a new user account on my PC and install it that way, but I tried using a different user account and it didnt work, it wouldnt let me. Does anyone know of another way or is there something Im not doing right?

And for reference, Im on a PC not a Mac. (shut up chris) :wink:

If anyone knows how, Id appreciate the help. :thumb:

I used both a 20 gb iPod and an iPod shuffle on my (then) PC and now my Mac. No problems whatsoever on either machine. Is it not letting you set up both? Or are you just assuming it won't?

Realizing the you're on a PC and not a Mac, this may not work at all, but the approach may be similar for both platforms. I don't know, but for reference for any Mac users, here's how it can be done...

On a Mac OS, you automatically have a "Shared" folder accessible to any user on your computer. To allow for multiple iPods (i.e. multiple users accessing the same shared library of music), you'd move all your music into an "iTunes/iTunes Music/" folder in the this "Shared" user folder.

Then, for each of the users on your computer, you'd also have a "Music/iTunes/" folder in their home directory. However, the key thing for this operation is to create an alias of the "Shared" user's "iTunes Music" folder and put in each of your user's "Music/iTunes/" folders.

That way, when logged in as User #1, the iPod would look for songs in User #1's "Music/iTunes/" folder, find the alias of the "iTunes Music" folder, and would then link to all the music held in the "Shared" user's folder through this alias. Since any user could access this same shared directory, User #2, User #3, etc. could all be set up in the same way.

This works on a Mac, but I'm not sure if you could accomplish the same thing by using the "Create Shortcut" feature and the "My Music" folder in Windows. Might be worth a try by testing it out with a small library of music files.

I didnt try to set up the shuffle on my user account, I figured it wouldnt work because I already have my 6gb on it. So your saying its okay to install the software that came with the shuffle on my user account and they will both work? Is it that simple or is there something else I need to do?

My girlfriend & I have between us one iPod and one iPod shuffle. There is no problem whatsoever of connecting both to the same computer.
But then again - I'm on a Mac. Wink
