How about a Hipbase Conference? - Shane Kroeker - 08-17-2005
This Hipbase community is a wonderful way that Tragically Hip fans can discuss their questions and feelings up on the forum. This community is quite hardcore about the band that we all love. Around the world there are many conferences for just about any topic that people are passionate about. This got me thinking that perhaps, if there was participation and favourment from the people of the Hipbase community, we should hold an annual Hipbase Conference. It would be a great event where you could actually meet and mingle with fellow Hipbasers that you have had contact with before, but have never met in person. It would be the Mecca of Hip, you wouldn't be a true Hip fan unless you attended at least one of these conferences. Comments? Questions? Feel like co-ordinating a Conference?

Sounds like a good idea... almost like a Kiss Convention or Zepfest. Wonder if the band would show and play that private gig they've been promising for so long....(note. I'm very sarcastic)

It is a good idea, but where would we meet? If we say Toronto for instance all the people outside of Ontario (and some inside) will be slighted. The only alternative is to make them regional I guess, have an Ontario conference a Alberta conference etc... or by city maybe? I like the idea, I think we should rent a hall, hire a Hip tribute band to play, set up a traders booth and a booth were Hip fans can show off there collections. Im sure it would start small but these things can grow and when the get big enough, certain people start to show up (wink,wink). Hey if the Kiss Army can do it, The Hip Army can!!!

These conferences occur on a smaller scale quite often...at concert venues all around North America about every other year! :lol:
Seriously, that's a great idea, especially if someone could get The Hip themselves involved. Hmmm...come to think of it, it smells like another roadside attraction!

Very good idea, maybe even a Hipbase Camping trip or something along those lines. It would be nice to have a "National" gathering of people. Starting small is a very good idea. I would really like to meet alot of people on the board.

I think about that all the time, as for the location,Yes Id been cool if it was somewhere more/less in central Canada meaning Manitoba if not Saskatchewan, in a city preferebly. Prawly need some sorta intinerary with various events/functions for each day,i.e. who can do the best Kerri-o-key to Hip ah what else, what do those damn Trekkies do for 3 days

regionals could be quarterly, larger conferences at larger centres annually, maybe? its a great idea. with the number of passionate fans it could easily become a canadian tradition. Hipfest? Hipcon?

Cool idea... but with the spread out fanbase, only those with means could make it to a national event. And having it in a major city (with a major airport) would make it way easier for anyone who did want to come from far.
I think that regionals would be great, and then a national/international event. We can't forget the Dutchies and UK'ers. (And Chris in Australia!)
