Who could, or would, replace him? If they would replace him.
Recent conversations about replacing members of other bands made me think - What if the tone, style all changed, even just a bit with the boys, due to the fact that there is a new band member..

As wretched a thought as that is to comprehend it's not out of the realm of possibility. Say by some act of god, the Stripper's Union (they'd probably have to change the name for the bible belters in the US South) make it HUGE in the States, do you honestly think that Rob would not go? Come on, it's every musician's dream to make it to the big time...and as sad a thought as that is, I really don't think he would turn it down.
I don't know if I'd be happy for him, or sad because that would certainly spell the end for our lads...

Well, I didn't want to be morbid, but let's step it up a notch..
Let's take away the "quitter" vibe..
He dies of a heartattack after running away with me for the weekend..
Then what?
The band comes to a grinding halt, takes a year off..then what...??
NO ONE can take the hottest man in rock n' rolls place??

They've made it, and going back to 1988 in an interview on MuchMusic (featured on Hipfans.com Grab Bag DVD Volume 3, due out on June 26) they mention that making it in the US isn't something that they are concerned with as there is plenty to do here in Canada.
The band is the five guys we know and love. If one were to leave, the band would be no more.

Theya re not going to make ut big with that album, sorry. It gets worse everytime i Listen to it.

Ok, ok, lets just say for the shits & giggles that Rob does leave to concentrate fully completely on Strippers...
We already have Gord on a successful solo career, Gord Sinclair producing other bands (The Spades) ... Paul just started his own record label, right? And most of the boys guested on the Strippers Union album...
I think if Robby left, we might not get another studio album by The Tragically Hip - but I would imagine many impromptu reunions and much success to all 5 guys. It would be kind of cool to see what each member of the band can do with a side project.

Nope, I love my obsession..it passes the time - :oops:
However, seeing how Widespread Panic lost their beloved guitarist, and being together around the same length as The Hip, having the same loyal fans...they replaced him, and are now on tour. The fans are split, but they are still selling out shows across the States...do you think the Hip could do this? And would we as fans, split, come together, or quit going to shows??

(can we be brutally honest for a moment): while I agree that if one of the boys decided to leave, the other members of the band might just pack it in and go their separate ways. I think, from a fanbase perspective, they could survive any individual departure, if they chose to carry on ... except if Gord Downie decided to quit.
