The U.S. Open - joshwayy - 06-19-2005

This is setting up to be a great day for golf! The greens at Pinehurst are hard as a rock and as fast as goose shit through a greased tin horn. Speaking of a goose, I think he is the solid favorite to win today, but double bogeys are aplenty on a course like this and one hole could mean a 4 shot swing.

Personally I'm pulling for Gore, a virtual unknown who has been scraping along on the mini tours for a while. You know what I love about golf? What other sport can you get a guy who struggles week to week to make a buck compete with a player like Tiger who make over a 100 mill a year.

818! 818! 818!

- tigerthelion - 06-19-2005

I hope Gore or Browne don't win. I hate when no-names win these big tournaments. I'd rather have Tiger win although it's quite unlikely this year. Anyone remember Ben Curtis?? Didn't think so. He won the British Open a few years back and has been invisible since.

I want Retief to win, but it's fun to root for the underdog, especially someone who seems as genuine as Gore.

Gore is ranked 818th in the world of golf; and fans have been chanting this ranking as he walks the fairways.

I love the US Open for the fact that almost *anyone* can enter as it is an "open" tournament. It reveals that the bottom of the ladder on the PGA can still play golf a million times better than any of us.

Yes please eleborate if you are all knowing.

Great round by Campbell. Sorry Reteif fell apart and Gore too, that is a bit embarising 81 and 84, reminds me of Weir in 99 at the PGA

I'm fairly certain that if I was the best golfer in the world, I'd be a spoiled arrogant prick. Hell, most club pros I've met are spoiled arrogant pricks.

But what did he do this weekend that would illicit opiated's comment?

NMAS Wrote:and Gore too

that made me chuckle.

Campbell's heart must have been going a mile a minute. I've stood on 18 with a 4 shot cushion and thought I wouldn't make contact. I was glad he pulled it off. I'm not a big Tiger fan (and that was perhaps the worst shirt I've ever seen) but he put on a great charge.

p.s.: I'm a club pro and I'm not a spoiled and arrogant prick...at least I don't think I am?

just to comment on tiger...he had a "moment" where he tore up a green with his putter...cursing while he did it..any golfer knows that's a huge no-no..when asked about it afterwards, he said "i did it because i was pissed"..word for word..no class...he's always yelling "damnit" and 'jesus christ"..which may not seem like a lot, i just think he is able to get away with more...to me, he showed no remorse about messing up the green, and he did quite a butchering job on it...

Displaying emotion with millions of dollars on the line is a bad thing? Wow. I yell dammit and jesus christ every single time I swing a club. Sweet! I'm a spoiled arrogant prick!
