all amazing songs. I think out of all the Hip albums this one captures it's mood the best. The album cover, the album title, the lyrics, the guitar sounds.

OK....but what will be your favorite tomorrow?
Every song has a time and place. Think of a song you hate. Now imagine walking into a thrift store which hires Down Syndrom employees (Salvation Army, Goodwill, McD's) and all of the Downies(no pun intended) singing that song in unison.
Classic Moment.

Wow, that's a rough start for the first two responses to this thread.
I agree with your view of IVL and I certainly agree with the songs you left off your list (though I might have dropped All Tore Up too).

A new post happens about once every 7 hours these days on this board so whatever. I think All Tore Up is one of the most overlooked, and underappreciated songs in the Hip's catalogue.
Anyways, to the other guy. In Violet Light isn't my favourite album, but it definitely has a time and place I agree, and when that time comes I love it. In my opinion In Violet Light >>Up To Here and Fully Completely (as an album)

I absolutely adore Leave....its got the same moody feel as DfN, except the edge on the guitar has been taken off and replaced with that airy sound that pervades IVL.

Are You Ready is a brilliant tune to have on while driving. I've got a Hip mix with tunes like Cordelia, Another Midnight, Grace Too, awesome driving songs, but totally not complete without Are You Ready. What a killer opening song for an album. Better than Poets, anyways.

By contrast the "Are You Ready" on Blue Rodeo's album of the same name is fantastic.
Also, I would like to visit this alternate universe in which R U Ready is a better song than Poets.
Just kidding. To each his or her own. And, in fact, when it comes to Are You Ready, you can have mine too.

I love "Leave" too, but I never thought of it in the way you did. Interesting...
And I also can't understand the hating on "All Tore Up". The song rocks... it's just a fun tune to "Gord out" to!

How can you have a summer bbq/camp fire going, with cold beers, good friends, and not have the Dire Wolf kicking in the back ground (perhaps even a live version, with the Gems intro). It screams of summer/camping/bon fire etc....It's right up there for the mood setting songs such as Wheat Kings, Bobcaygeon, Scared....those songs you need outdoors on a warm summery night

This disc, like every other TTH effort since TATH, had seemed unimpressive upon the my first listen, but gained more favor with each spin. Now I love it every bit as any of the others. Technically speaking, it sounds absolutely incredible. And the following cuts have become top-favorites of mine:
